Really interesting short clip about blind massage therapists in China, where a zero tolerance policy towards Covid means they are still being hit hard by lockdowns.
"For those who are blind or partially sighted, the massage industry is a vital employment lifeline. But workers say the effects of lockdown and a lack of government support are making life particularly difficult."
For the massage profession in the UK, like other countries, many here lost their beloved work and their income almost overnight. A big percentage of therapists are self employed, which meant they couldn't access government support schemes such as furlough. It is such a relief to feel like we are working once more in something very close to normal; and to feel sympathy for all of our colleagues across the world who are still being affected.

Blind massage therapists say the lockdown and lack of government support are making life difficult.

We asked our lovely Hannah Newrick, BCMB Worcester Holistic Massage Tutor, to pen some words for an editorial in the next edition of Your Midlands newspaper, and they were so brilliant we thought we'd share them here too!

"Touch is a vital – yet often neglected – aspect of human interaction. It is the first sense we develop and can convey a powerful range of emotions. The incredible benefits of touch cannot be overstated – it is a fundamental human need.

BCMB defines massage as ‘one person touching another with awareness, so that healing may take place’. Arguably the most ancient form of healing, our instinct to ‘rub it better’ is consistently proven to have powerful effects by modern scientific studies, which continue to reveal massage’s incredible gifts.

Holistic simply means ‘whole body’, and BCMB Worcester Holistic Massage Diploma students learn to work with the body in all of its elements, emotional and spiritual as well as the physical, including how to look after their own with good body use, enabling long and fruitful careers.

Many students describe the course as ‘life changing’ – self reflection and personal growth are important elements of the course, as we are only able to meet others as therapists as deeply as we are able to meet ourselves. The journey of learning to receive massage is as essential as the mechanics of how to do it – a really delicious part of the required learning!

Students graduate from the course ready to begin their careers as therapists, equipped with a thorough knowledge of anatomy and pathology, ensuring they can confidently and safely work with a wide range of clients.

Experienced and passionate tutors support students every step of the way, and The Fold provides a beautiful and tranquil setting, enabling students to deep dive during teaching weekends.

Skilled massage therapists are arguably needed more than ever after the touch deprivation experienced by many over the past two years during Covid – now is a fantastic time to embark on your massage training!"

Hot off the press! We are very excited to announce that Susan Findlay will be joining BCMB Bristol in May 2023 to run her 3 day Oncology Massage course. You will very shortly be able to book online direct at Susan's website. In the meantime, you can find out more about Susan's Oncology work here https://www.susanfindlay.co.uk/blog-what-is-oncology-massage/

As many of you will remember, Andy F**g, founder of BCMB, worked closely with cancer charity Penny Brohn in what was then the groundbreaking field of oncology massage so it is a massage specialism that's close to our hearts and closely tied to BCMB's history. We are over the moon that Susan has chosen us as their training base in the south west.

This is a question I get asked by therapists, clients, medical professionals and even by those who are well versed in the benefits of soft tissue therapy. In my experience, what makes it different from other types of massage is the disease and the clients’ state of health. Like other conditions th...

Praise for Deep Massage - The Lauterstein Method:
"David is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. He makes magic in the classroom through his ability to convey the information as well as create a positive learning environment for students. Deep Massage is a technique that I use in every session. By working with the muscles that lie deeper in the body from new angles, you will leave class with a new protocol and a new perspective"
Jamie Carmody, massage therapist since 1993
