Reggie and Jemima made a special visit to our Children's Emergency Department to see how we support children with sensory needs.

The young pair tested what we have available to help make the experience of children with additional needs and disabilities more bearable when they need to visit.

Just ask a member of staff to see our sensory machine, collection of fidget toys, communication mats, and more!

Alan was so touched by the "hard work, respect and dedication" of our team that he wanted to say thank you in his own unique way.

After his stay on our Medical Short Stay Unit, Alan gifted staff a personalised pen and badge to show they are his NHS heroes! ⭐🖊

Thank you Alan! 🙏

An off-duty NHS hero has been honoured for exceptional bravery after her life-saving action 🦸‍♀️👏

Amanda Field, a Senior Radiography Assistant at Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, received a Royal Humane Society award after her selfless quick action helped save lives at the scene of a serious motorway accident.

Amanda was on her way to visit family in Manchester when a road traffic collision unfolded in front of her on the M6.

Witnessing a motorcycle carrying two people lose control and hit the central reservation, Amanda sprung into action when both the rider and passenger were thrown from the bike.

Recognising the immediate danger, Amanda safely pulled onto the hard shoulder, exited her vehicle and began signalling for traffic to stop. With no emergency services yet on scene, she courageously went onto the motorway to provide urgent first aid.

Drawing on her 15 years of NHS experience and clinical training, Amanda calmly took charge of the situation by giving clear instructions to bystanders of how to help, while she assessed and treated the injured passenger, before moving on to perform CPR on the injured rider.

Well done Amanda, simply amazing! 🙏👏

Happy 90th birthday to a real hospital hero 🎉💫

Volunteer Bob, who celebrated his milestone birthday at the weekend, still gives up his time to support patients at the Alexandra Hospital, as part of our chaplaincy team offering emotional support and bedside companionship.

He started volunteering at the Alex in his early 70s and still plays a very active role in our chaplaincy team, singing at a ward's Easter celebration last week and organising special visits like the Mayor of Redditch's visit to the hospital last year.

Happy birthday Bob! You’re an inspiration to many at the Alex and beyond! 💙✨

🚨 FIVE things you need to know during the resident doctors' strike (7am on Tuesday 7 April until 7am on Monday 13 April) ⬇️

1️⃣ - During the resident doctors' strike all other NHS staff - including consultants and specialist doctors - will still be working hard to keep you safe.

2️⃣ - If you need urgent medical help but you're not sure where to go, use NHS 111 to get assessed and directed to the right place for you. Use the NHS App, go online, or call.

3️⃣ - Call 999 in an emergency when someone is seriously ill or their life is at risk.

4️⃣ - You will be contacted if your appointment needs to be changed. We'll only cancel if absolutely necessary and if needed, we'll be in touch to reschedule.

5️⃣ - GP practices and dental surgeries remain open. Please continue to attend your GP and dental appointments unless told otherwise.

Sarah was alcohol dependent until she received the support of our Alcohol Liaison Nurse, Cheryl.

Alcohol dependency is far more common than you think, but is rarely talked about and often misunderstood.

So we asked Sarah to sit down with Cheryl and look back on her experience of alcohol dependency, her sobriety journey and the bond she's developed with Cheryl.
