Alcohol Awareness Week 2024: 7–14 July

This year's theme is “Understanding Alcohol Harm” – a powerful reminder that alcohol affects not just individuals, but families, workplaces, and entire communities.

👉 1 in 4 people worry about someone else’s drinking
👉 Alcohol is linked to over 200 health conditions, including cancer and liver disease
👉 But support and change are possible

Join us this week in raising awareness, starting conversations, and exploring how we can reduce harm together. 💬💙

⚠️ Important Patient Notice: Clarification on Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) Access via NHS ⚠️

Due to recent media attention, we’d like to clarify that Mounjaro is not available for general or cosmetic weight loss through the NHS.

It is only prescribed under strict eligibility criteria, including a BMI of 40+ (or 37.5+ for certain ethnic backgrounds) and at least four serious weight-related health conditions.

❗ Please help us prioritise medical need by not submitting online or phone requests unless you meet the full criteria.

📌 Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

‼️ Weight Loss Injections ‼️

We are receiving multiple requests for patients who are hoping to receive weight loss injections. There are very strict criteria to receive these on the NHS.

GPs can currently only prescribe these for weight loss to patients who have a body mass index (BMI, a measure of your weight against your height) of 40 or more, and also have 4 of the following medical conditions:

- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Dyslipidaemia (high cholesterol)
- Cardiovascular disease (stroke, heart attack, angina, peripheral vascular disease)
- Obstructive sleep apnoea
- Type 2 diabetes

If you do not have a BMI of 40+ and 4 of the conditions listed above, you will not be able to receive an NHS prescription for weight loss injections, please do not contact us about it. At some point next year, patients with a BMI of 35-39.9 will also qualify but they will still need to have been diagnosed with 4 of the above conditions.

We will be contacting those patients who are eligible in due course. If you do think that you may qualify, please wait for us to get in touch and please be aware we will only be authorised to prescribe the medication if you have already completed another weight loss programme (such as the NHS Digital Weight Management Service or the Diabetes Prevention Programme).

Thank you

🩺 World Pre-eclampsia Day – Raising Awareness, Saving Lives 💜

Today, we join the global effort to highlight the impact of pre-eclampsia—a serious pregnancy complication affecting millions of women worldwide. Each year, nearly 76,000 mothers and 500,000 babies lose their lives due to pre-eclampsia and related hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Early detection and timely care are crucial in preventing these tragedies. Even in the UK, pre-eclampsia remains a significant concern, with about 1,000 babies dying annually due to the condition, many as a consequence of premature delivery.

Let's work together to raise awareness, support research, and ensure better outcomes for mothers and babies everywhere.
