☀️ SUMMER PILATES! 🌻

Time for a timetable update…

✨ So many of you have been waiting for a space at our beautiful Rock Village Hall venue that I’ve had a little timetable shuffle. From July, we’re moving our Tuesday afternoon class to the morning at Rock, so will now have TWO classes running one after the other! 🥳

🩵 Those on my waiting list for a place at Rock will be contacted in the next 24 hours. After that I will advertise & open any remaining spaces up to the public - let me know if you’d like to be added to my waiting list for priority booking.

🚶‍♀️Fantastic for improving your posture, balance, strength & flexibility, Pilates focuses on the core or central muscles.
It is a flowing, mat-based exercise form which many find hugely beneficial when it comes to managing back pain & other long term health complaints.

🙋🏼‍♀️ All classes are taught by Natalie, a fully-certified Pilates instructor with over 10 years teaching experience & a background in Physiotherapy.

👉 I modify, adapt & progress the exercises in our classes to ensure everyone is working at a comfortable level for them. Classes are small, friendly & provide an hour for you to focus on just you; nothing else 😌

💙 Pilates for the WHOLE body 💙

In this week’s classes I’ve combined exercises to utilise the lines of connective tissue running throughout the body 🧍🏽‍♀️

Bringing additional arm/leg/trunk movements into certain exercises results in a really effective whole body workout. Movements are slow, controlled & keep the core muscles as the main focus, but we’re challenging the stability at multiple joints, pushing our flexibility & strengthening lots of muscle groups simultaneously 💪

Here’s a few of the exercises we’ve been doing this week 👆

1️⃣ Thread the needle with swimming. Already a fantastic exercise for challenging core stability with rotation & stretching the posterior shoulder, but adding that leg lift opens up the front of the hip & makes the push up from the mat so much trickier. Try & slowly bring the lower back & pelvis back to neutral before lowering your foot to the mat to really get those deep core muscles engaged 👌

2️⃣ Swimming legs with elbow dip & hip/trunk rotation.
Similarly to exercise 1, we’re adding some hip extension & taking body weight through the arms as we tuck the elbows in & lower the chest towards the mat. But this time we lift that leg higher into extension, externally rotate the hip & turn to look towards the foot. Slowly pushing back up through the hands will activate the triceps (upper arm muscles) & bringing the spine back to neutral before lowering the foot will keep the core firing 🙌

3️⃣ Roll up with arm circles.
Here we imprint the ribs & add a slow circle with both arms, following at all times with the breastbone & head to ensure trunk movement. This works on the stamina of those abdominals as we hold the roll up position & fires up the oblique abdominals as we turn the body 🔥

❓What’s your favourite variation or combination Pilates exercise?

Remember: please only attempt these exercises if you feel confident and comfortable in doing so. Always seek guidance from a healthcare professional if you feel unsure.

🧘🏼‍♀️ Mindfulness 😌

Last week was Mental Health Awareness Week, with 2024’s focus being on movement 🤸🏾‍♀️

Along with its many physical benefits, research has shown that exercise can reduce anxiety & depression. Finding a form of exercise that you enjoy makes such a difference when it comes to forming a regular habit 📅

Many of our classes participants have told me that they find it impossible to think about anything else in class other than the movement their body is performing at that very moment. They switch off from the stresses & strains of their daily lives to focus on their posture, breath & movement.

✨ Because of its precise nature, Pilates is inherently mindful ✨

We build on this at Core Pilates Worcestershire by finishing every class with a few minutes of visual relaxation or breath work; calming your body & mind before you continue with your day 😌

Find a movement you love & keep doing it 💚

🌟 TESTIMONIAL 🌟
I haven’t shared one of these for a while, so here’s a truly wonderful testimonial from a class participant who’s been attending our classes for many years.

She has highlighted some of the less obvious (but arguably just as important) benefits of Pilates beautifully here.

With stressful lives & pressure on so many of us to ‘do it all,’ it has never been more important to find something that helps you to cope with those stressors. Taking an hour away from daily life to focus on your body, in a calm, friendly environment can be so beneficial. Pilates is about so much more than just the physical elements.

Thank you for this lovely feedback 🩵

My Story

Hi I’m Natalie,

I graduated from the University of Birmingham with a degree in Physiotherapy in 2010 and spent 8 years working in the NHS and Private sectors, specialising in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. I have recently made the decision to take a career break from Physiotherapy practice to focus on family life and my Pilates classes.

I started teaching Pilates in 2013 and loved it! My class timetable has grown continually since then and I now offer sessions suitable for a range of abilities, in both the daytime and evening, in and around Droitwich Spa. I am a fully certified Pilates Instructor with the APPI (Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute); a world leading provider of Physiotherapy and Pilates treatment and education (https://appihealthgroup.com/)

I have completed the following training courses:
