What happens inside a WLH athlete performance session?
Meet Keenan, aka “The Cumbrian Ox” 🐂💪
At just 17, Keenan is already competing in strongman, placing huge physical demands on his body. His journey with West Lakes Health began as a Youngstar, where the focus was on building strong foundations, movement quality, recovery habits and education.
As his training and ambitions grew, so did our work together. Keenan has now graduated from the Youngstars Programme and is a WLH sponsored athlete, continuing his development with ongoing performance support, recovery care and tailored physio alongside his training schedule.
This session began, as all WLH athlete sessions do, with a full catch-up, discussing upcoming competitions, goals, recovery, pain points and how training has been feeling. Because real progress starts with understanding.
Tailored exercises followed, designed to improve strength, control and resilience, with education built into every movement so Keenan understands the why, not just the what.
The session finished with targeted recovery work, massage through neck, shoulders and hamstrings, plus needling on specific pain points, supporting tissue recovery, reducing tension and preparing the body for the next training block.
A full-circle moment.
From Youngstar → Sponsored Athlete → Long-term performance support.
This is what athlete development looks like!
