⚠️ Reminder: SMA Formula Recall ⚠️

Some SMA Infant Formula and Follow-On Formula products are still being recalled due to the possible presence of cereulide toxin.

Cereulide can cause rapid onset of nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps. It’s unlikely to be destroyed by boiling water or cooking.

Even if your baby seems well, it is essential to stop using affected products.

If the formula was prescribed by a health professional, consult a pharmacist or other medical professional before changing formula.

A new year doesn’t need a new diet.

As we enter a new year, you may feel the pressure to make lifestyle changes, but you may only have experience of restrictive plans that don’t last.
Sustainable weight management isn’t about perfection or willpower; it’s about habits you can actually live with long term.

As dietitians we support people by focusing on
✨Choosing foods that are right for your body
✨Understanding hunger, fullness and emotional eating
✨Creating routines around food, movement, sleep and stress
✨Making changes that are realistic, flexible and personal.
✨Supporting people to plan for and predict when things may go wrong and how to overcome this

Weight changes – when they happen – are a by-product of healthier routines, not the sole goal. So, if you are setting intentions this year, consider what it would look like to support your health long term rather than short term ‘quick fixes’ and what you would need to put in place to support that and achieve your goals.

If you would like our help in the process, you can book an appointment here: www.sunlightnutrition.co.uk

Have you had an NHS Health Check and been told you are “Borderline”?

If you are feeling anxious following your NHS Health Check, you are not alone – especially if you’ve been told that you are borderline for things like type 2 Diabetes, high cholesterol or blood pressure. This can be a worry, but it is your body giving early warning signs which is valuable information to be able to make changes to your lifestyle and diet.

The good news?
For many people, small, realistic lifestyle changes can make a big difference – often enough to reduce risk and prevent further progression.

As dietitians we support people to
✨Improve blood sugar control without extreme dieting
✨ Build balanced sustainable eating habits
✨Understand how food, stress, sleep and movement all affect metabolic health
✨Make changes that fit real life

Early action is not about perfection. It’s about protecting your future health, one achievable step at a time and we would love to help you on that journey.

We are closed from 12pm today for our Christmas break and will be back open at 9am on the 5th of January to clients.

We know the festive period can give extra time to think, catch up with some life admin and also highlight some struggles (particularly around food), so you are still able to view our services on our website www.sunlightnutrition.co.uk and any enquiries will be picked up from the 2nd of January.

We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and we look forward to seeing both our current clients and some new faces in clinic and virtually in 2026.

Will it make me faster?

Training over Christmas and the festive season? Great, some of those yummy extra calories can be incorporated into your nutrition training plan!

Taking a break over the holidays or just not got time to train? Adjust your eating plan to your non training days, not easy with all the extra food around this time of year!

Some tips for the holidays:

✨Focus on a balanced diet to support your performance and recovery

✨Eat regularly, don’t skip meals as this could lead to overeating later

✨Focus on including lots of colourful veggies to help fill your plate

✨Plan where you want to have more treats, stay mindful of portion sizes

✨Keep well hydrated and try not to overindulge on alcohol

✨Eat slowly, take breaks, and stay in tune with your fullness cues.

If you have had a heavy training season, this can be a good time to rest, recover and refuel. If you feel like you have over indulged, draw a line under it and get back on track with your gut training. One meal does not mitigate a good sports performance nutrition plan.

Will it make me faster?

Weight management in endurance training can make a big difference but can also require some fine tuning.

Do you want to lose weight but not sure how to do this while training? Getting it wrong can lead to fatigue, underperforming and increased risk of injury.

✨Prioritize Performance Over the Scale

✨You still need to fuel workouts, don’t just cut calories!

✨Match intake to training load

✨Time your nutrition to your training sessions.

Avoid crash diets. Your body is your engine. Starving it won’t make it faster — fuelling it will. 💥

Power to ratio is a fine balance.

Your training weight target can be different to race weight target. Race weight is not always sustainable or healthy, be realistic about your target weight.

If you have a significant amount to lose, try and do this out of season.

Having support from a Sports Dietitian can make a big difference - You can find more information on our website www.sunlightnutrition.co.uk

Creatine in endurance training

Creatine is one of the few supplements with strong evidence for performance enhancement, though its benefits depend on the sport and training style. It’s not just for bodybuilders; it can play a role in endurance training which incorporates varying intensities and intervals.

🏃‍♂️ Boosts high-intensity bursts
🔁 Speeds up recovery
🧬 Enhances muscle energy reserves
💪 Helps fight fatigue during long sessions

Food first, but not only food.

Meat and fish are good sources of creatine, but supplementation can be beneficial for some athletes, especially those who have lower intakes of animal protein.

🏃‍♀️💪 Will protein make you faster?

Not all protein is created equal. The type, timing & quality matter when it comes to endurance, recovery & performance.

🥚🍗 Real food or supplements? Whole food sources like eggs, lean meats, dairy, tofu, and legumes offer additional nutrients and ideally form the basis of your performance nutritional plans, but supplements (powders, bars, drinks) can complement your plan and help you meet your nutritional targets.

🧠 Train your gut. 🚫 Nothing new on race day. Practice your fuel during training to avoid surprises.

👩‍⚕️ Confused by mixed messages? Our sports dietitian can help you to get the food right first and then compliment with supplements where needed to build a personalised plan that fits your goals, reduces injury risk & boosts performance.

Go to www.sunlightnutrition.co.uk to get your journey started!

Will it make me faster?

🏃‍♀️💪 Want to train harder, recover faster, and feel stronger? Don’t skip the protein!

Protein isn’t just for bodybuilders — endurance athletes need it too. Whether you're running, cycling, or swimming, it helps to:
• 🔧 Repair muscles after tough sessions
• ⚡ Boost aerobic capacity through better training adaptation
• 🛡️ Support your immune system during intense blocks
• 🍽️ Keep you full and fuel your performance

📸 Tip: Practice your race-day nutrition during training. And remember — nothing new on race day!
