Community, Connection & Intergenerational Joy at Highstone Mews 🥰

There are moments in care that quietly remind you what truly matters — and this was one of them.

Residents from Highstone Mews Care Home in Worsbrough Common, Barnsley were delighted to attend an intergenerational carol concert and gift-giving ceremony at Worsborough Primary School, and the joy on both sides was unmistakable.

Our residents loved every moment — the singing, the festive atmosphere and, most of all, the company. And the children? Their smiles, curiosity and warmth said it all. With just a few shared glances, you could see genuine intergenerational connections beginning to grow.

Intergenerational experiences like this are incredibly important. They help reduce loneliness, lift mood, spark conversation and give residents meaningful moments to look forward to and talk about long after the day has ended. For children, they build empathy, understanding and respect — lessons that stay with them for life.

At Highstone Mews, intergenerational connection isn’t an “extra” — it’s part of everyday life. Outings, shared experiences and strong local partnerships help create a home where residents remain active, visible and truly connected to the world around them.

A heartfelt thank you to Worsborough Primary School for such a warm welcome. Moments like these are exactly what great care — and great community — look like. 💙

Christmas is definitely on its way at Highstone Mews Care Home in Worsbrough Common, Barnsley, and the festive spirit is well and truly in full swing 🎄

Residents, staff and visitors have been digging deep to buy raffle tickets, with oodles of prizes up for grabs — all in support of something very special. The funds raised will go towards extra-special events and planned outings next year, giving residents even more opportunities to get out, explore and enjoy new experiences together.

Fundraising like this is about more than prizes. It brings people together, creates excitement, and helps ensure life in our care home continues to be full, active and meaningful — with plenty to look forward to.

🎆 Bonfire Night Fun at Highstone Mews! 🎆

It was an evening to remember at Highstone Mews Care Home in Barnsley, as residents gathered to celebrate Bonfire Night with plenty of sparkle, laughter, and good company.

Wrapped up warm, everyone enjoyed the fireworks lighting up the night sky and the chance to share stories, smiles and sweet treats together. It’s these special moments that make life at Highstone Mews so full of warmth, fun and friendship.

🎁 Shoe Box Appeal 2025 – Adopt A Grandparent 🎁

This Christmas, Thornhill House and Highstone Mews are once again proud to be supporting the Elderly Shoe Box Appeal — a wonderful campaign that spreads joy to those who may not have family nearby or regular visitors during the festive season. 💕

We’re collecting shoe boxes filled with thoughtful gifts to be distributed to Barnsley Hospital’s Elderly Ward and care homes across Barnsley — bringing comfort, companionship, and smiles to older people who might otherwise spend Christmas alone. 🌟

Every small act of kindness makes a big difference. Whether it’s warm socks, toiletries, chocolates, or a heartfelt card, your gift can remind someone they’re not forgotten this Christmas. ❤️
