Yoga at ANY age is great, and your practice can adapt over time.

Oh to be as supple as a babe! As I've gotten ahem - older, its less about fast paced flows and impressive shapes, and more about taking time, listening to what my body is telling me it needs. Yoga comes in all shapes, sizes and forms 🧘‍♀️.

THE ONE THE WHOLE FAMILY EATS:

💚Tagliatelle bolognese - approx 730 calories per serving.

✅Good source carbohydrates & fibre (chose wholewheat options)
✅Good source of protein
✅Low in sugar
✅Source of Iron, vitamin B12 and zinc

Ingredients to serve family x 5:

- 375g wholewheat Tagliatelle
- 400g 0% fat minced beef (5% keeps fat content down but is cheaper from a cost point of view and can be offset with lower fat content meals during the week - can be substituted with red lentils).
- 1 x white onion
- 1 x celery stick
- 1 x large clove garlic
- 1 x carrot or sweet potato
- 1 x tbsp tomato paste
- 200g plum tomatoes
- 100 ml chicken stock (homemade)
- 50 ml basic red wine (optional)
- pinch salt & pepper
- pinch mixed herbs
- 1 x tsp olive oil for cooking

Side salad:
- mixed leaf salad
- handful fresh basil

Based on one serving using approx 75g wholewheat Tagliatelle:
✅ 45g protein
✅ 78g carbohydrates
✅ 36g fat
✅1.5 g salt (based off low salt chicken stock)
✅ approx £1.60 per serving. Adding lentils can bulk your meal making it cost effective aswell as nutritional.

With a lovely warming bowel of porridge, with flaxseed, mixed dried fruit & nuts and fresh raspberries for natural sweetness 😋.

💚Excellent source of slow release complex carbohydrates keeping us fuller for longer.
💚Excellent source of fibre.
💚Sugar from mostly natural sources - minimal added sugars.
💚Source of calcium, omega fats, vitamin C & antioxidants.
💚Source of protein.

Budget based on a Lidl shop:
💚Simply Porridge Oats - £1.79
💚Milled Flaxseed 200g - £1.39
💚Fruit & nut mix 300g £0.99

Porridge is great because the list of toppings is endless, you could add peanut butter, Greek yoghurt, stewed apples or pears...and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg...

Nutritional information (based on approx 40g rolled oats, 200ml semi skimmed milk (or milk alternative), 10g flaxseed, 30g fruit and nut mix, 30g / handfull of raspberries):

💚17g protein
💚55g Carbohydrate
💚26g sugars
💚16g fat
💚11g fibre
💚0.2 g salt

It may be a gloomy day & I'm full of cold...BUT I've been working hard behind the scenes as I've added nutrition to my resume 😍.

💚Nutrition came about after having my 3rd baby.
Money was tight, I was postpartum with a baby, a teenager, a pre-teen, and a husband to feed.

I'm older (hello 40's 😅) my body has changed, and I wanted us all to be optimally healthy but on a budget.

💚Has it been a learning curve - YES. Was there an adjustment period - YES. Do we still have tasty meals - YES. Do we have more energy & feel better overall - a big YES!

💚We still have the odd treat, but have manged to cut down on processed foods hugely.

💚You don't need to be a chef! Anyone can make simple changes. Its all about KNOWLEDGE.

I recently went for a walk with a friend who's re-found yoga. We talked about the shift of mind state yoga puts us in for that short time...there really is something transformative about it. Our minds are so constantly busy, yoga almost forces us to slow down, and just listen, reacquaint ourselves with our body.

I'll admit I've been so busy, with work and a very active toddler in tow, my practice has taken a back seat, so this conversation served as a prompt to get back into it...and today I took some slow steps. It felt good 🥰💚

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Christmas, but the pressure for parents at this time can be unreal.

The most precious memories are the time we have together, not really the gifts (can anyone remember what they received last year?? Or the years previous 😅).

Put the scissors down and take 15 mins to yourself to reset your body and mind. Go on, take this as your cue, you need it!

💚My gosh - the wonders of vitamin D 🌞. Baby loves the feel of the grass...I love it the feel under my feet. It is fantastic for proprioception, balance and grounding. Outdoor yoga is a lovely way to elevate your yoga practice.

Don't get me wrong - I love my kids with my life. BUT I am frazzled after the Easter holidays. Momma needs a nap!! After a stretch first of course...😏

Yoga will always help clear my mind of the 'frazzles' & focus the mind on 'how is my body feeling / how is my breath feeling?'.

Yoga provides 'grounding' & lifts my mood always 💚. Sometimes that grounding is what our body and mind is calling out for...🧘‍♀️. Take that rest if you can mums!
