An Insight Into Accepting What You Cannot Change or Walk Away From.

Many things happen in life that are outside of your control. I am not one to pray, but I've always liked the philosophy of the Serenity Prayer:

Accept the things I cannot change – the courage to change the things I can – and the wisdom to know the difference.

For me, the wisdom lies in knowing the difference between your inner world and outer world.

If you have no control over events, then you do have a choice of which thoughts and feelings you engage with and which you do not.

The power of acceptance lies in knowing that you are never responding directly to events; you are responding to your thinking about those events. This is a concept I explore extensively in sessions with my clients, and once it clicks, you will find choices where there were none. That means peace of mind.
