Looking forward to the future makes life lighter.

It gives you a reason to get up in the morning.
A reason to make plans.
A reason to keep putting the effort in.

Without that sense of something good ahead, life can start to feel heavy. Dreary. Like a quiet uphill struggle.

But “looking forward” is a strange expression… because the future doesn’t actually exist yet.

What you’re really looking at is your imagination.

If you struggle to look forward to things, it simply means the future you’re imagining isn’t very inspiring.

And when that imagined future feels real, it quietly shapes how you feel today.

That’s essentially what hypnosis is: experiencing imagination as reality.

Once you understand that, something interesting happens.

You realise the uninspiring future you’ve been rehearsing isn’t fixed. It’s just a story your mind has been practising.

And stories can change.

When you learn how to shift that inner picture, the future starts to feel energising again. Motivating. Something you can genuinely look forward to.

If this resonates with you, feel free to message me. I’m always happy to have a conversation about how therapeutic hypnosis can help you reconnect with a future that feels worth stepping into.

What is the best natural way to reduce anxiety?

Anxiety can feel like all is lost, but one of my key messages of hope to anyone finding their way to this article is that your anxiety is a natural and safe process of the mind and body. I am not trying to say that it can't get out of hand, though. If you are reading this, you probably know that it can.

To experience flutterings of anxiety that only last a few seconds or minutes is the norm. Perhaps an occasional, mild anxious feeling that lasts for the duration of a situation cannot be avoided. Anxiety doesn't need to be intense enough to hold you back in life, but it sometimes does.

Life's ticking along okay, but you feel awful, like something is wrong or about to go wrong. You feel fearful, but there's nothing really to fear. So you start blaming everything that is not perfect in your life, which only really makes you feel worse.

You feel stuck in fight-or-flight, but there is nothing to fight or run away from.

Research will probably start throwing up words such as anxiety disorder or mental illness, which are scary in themselves. Are you broken? Are you damaged? Are you ill?

I have worked with hundreds of people stuck in this experience.

The first thing I like to establish and demonstrate to them is that their mind is working just fine, but their relationship with their thoughts and feelings can be improved.

In my 15 years of experience as a therapist and 47 years of experience as a flawed human being, the keys to good emotional well-being are:

Understanding your life is a story in your mind - there are things in the outside world that are out of your control, but the story is yours to write and re-write.

Anxiety escalates when you become scared of the thoughts and feelings associated with it. Be more comfortable with those uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, and they will no longer overwhelm you.

How do you know when you feel happy? What is happening in your mind and body? When you recognise the experience, you will find that it is easier to notice it, to hold on to it and to create it when you need it. Take happiness off a pedestal and realise it is a simple process of thoughts and feelings.

This is the basis of therapy with me. If this makes you curious, I'd love to hear from you. DM me or you can find contact details on my website at www.lifechangeexperience.co.uk

Otherwise, have a smashing day.

Your thoughts often become your experience, for better or for worse.

Therapeutic hypnosis is the process by which we can change your relationship with the thoughts that are not helping you in order to change your experience.

You know where I am if you are curious about how this might help you.

I have seen clients in the past who are so well educated in how bad trauma has affected them that it is hard to lead them out of it. I focus on teaching my clients how their mind works rather than how the trauma works. I want to help you understand your mind at its best and worst. How it creates problems and, therefore, how to use it to create solutions.

The word disorder is used all too often. The ideas that you are damaged, broken or cursed are disempowering and make the anxiety experience worse.

Anxiety can feel soul-crushing, overwhelming, crippling. I understand that. When you are anxious, it feels so real. This relationship with it is completely understandable, but it is only intensifying the downward spiral.

Thinking that the anxiety is happening to you only adds to the sense of helplessness.

Your understanding of your anxiety experience is everything, because anxiety is far worse when you fear it.

In therapy, I can help you understand that your mind is working just fine. Nothing is broken. It's your relationship with your thoughts and feelings that needs to change.

I can teach you to find your way out of the fear loop, and hypnosis can hold the door open as you do so.

Curious? That's a good start. I am right here if you'd like to know more.

Ask around, and you'll realise that people experience a wide variety of feelings in their bodies as anxiety.

There is no universal anxiety feeling.

I invite you to be curious about this.

Once you label a feeling as anxiety, your mind will look for reasons to be anxious when you feel it.

This is an unhelpful form of self-hypnosis. 🙃

What if you can experience the sensation simply as a sensation?

Your mind will stop looking for reasons to explain it.

During therapy with me, you will explore ways to unhypnotise yourself from these detrimental anxiety patterns.

As soon as you label a thought intrusive, it makes it feel more aggressive.

Your mind is probably working perfectly, but it's your relationship with it that's the problem.

Your thoughts are just information passing through. Sometimes that information is true, sometimes it is untrue. Sometimes it is useful, and other times it is not.

If you respond to a piece of information as a threat, you will feel under attack.

If you can see through this illusion, then you'll find your mind becomes a much friendlier place. I have ways of helping you do this.

If you're curious about this, please feel free to DM me, or contact me through my website https://www.lifechangeexperience.co.uk/contact.

It is a picture of a clock. ⏰
It does not tell the time.
It does not tick.
It does not tock.

A picture of a clock and ticktocking timepiece are two very different things that resemble each other.

Seems obvious, right?

If you experience excessive anxiety, then you're mistaking a thought of a threat for a threat.

Regardless how dangerous 'the thing' 🧛. The thought of 'the thing' is perfectly safe. Otherwise, horror movies would not be so popular.

Excessive anxiety happens when you learn to fear your own thoughts and feelings.

You are not ill. Your mind is working perfectly. You just need to change your relationship with your thoughts.

In session, I can help you see through this illusion.

Nobody has ever mistaken a photo of me for me, to my knowledge.

The picture and I are two different things that resemble each other.

Seems obvious, right?

If you experience excessive anxiety, then you are mistaking a thought of a threat for a threat.

The threat and the thought of a threat are two different things, but you are experiencing them as the same.

In session, I can help you see the illusion of your excessive anxiety.
