I didn’t realise how much I had lost connection with the present, to nature and my own inner spring of well-being until the flu combined with a heavy menstruation slowed me right down.

When life is busy (when isn’t it) and there’s so much to do we can feel alive but be missing the essential ingredients that make us feel whole.

We can add in lots of calming and connecting practices to try to find balance, but it’s often what we take out that makes all the difference.

✨✨When there’s less there’s more space ✨✨

More space to feel, to experience, to savour.

This week I stepped away from screens, away from triggers for comparison and the habit of trying to do more than one thing at a time.

Instead I slowed right down and…

🌿 I daydreamed

🌿 I watched the leaves move on the trees

🌿 I followed my own breath

🌿 I read only what felt inspiring

🌿 I listened to sensual music

🌿 I practiced gentle yin yoga

🌿 I napped

🌿 I moved slowly and with reverence for my body

🌿 I let the beauty of life affect me again

So I’m grateful to this illness for bringing me back to the present through slowing down.

For the gift of pause to pay attention.

Illness is a way to change trajectory. To reflect and take stock. To notice what is out of alignment and course correct.

I am disappointed to have to cancel my first Nourishing Yin yoga class tonight .water.studios.

And… I can't help but see how it offers a great lesson in surrender - which is what Yin is all about.

My partner and I went away for a lovely nature based weekend for my birthday only to come down with the flu.

All of our plans for big hikes, cooking together and gentle relaxing connection were dashed.

The fever and body aches were significant.

We had no choice but to surrender to it.

To surrender to rest, to surrender to what comfort we could find while breathing into the challenge.

As a result we found deep connection with ourselves, and each other.

We took turns reading to each other. We gave each other support in whatever ways we could.

Although I am sad to not be teaching for the first time this evening on the Spring Equinox I trust in what the act of surrender can bring.

Perhaps 27th March is a more potent day to start…

A slow, accessible & grounding practice to start your week refreshed.
Nourishing Yin Yoga is designed to bring calm and balance. It is the antidote to a tired body, and an overstimulated mind.

With a combination of grounding floor-based poses, concentrated breath, supportive props, and a generous amount of time in each pose - this style of yoga is accessible to beginners and experienced practitioners alike.

What to expect

In Yin we go at a slower pace, and poses are held from 2 – 10 mins typically.

The poses themselves can be challenging to hold, and yet with slower conscious breaths we downregulate the nervous system, bringing back a calm and groundedness that is our blueprint when not overstimulated by life's demands.

I will offer you guidance to access each pose in a way that is most supportive for you, making Yin Yoga your favourite too.

As fascia and tightness releases - tension melts away and you are left with a sense of peace and centredness to carry you into your week ahead.

Yin Yoga & the Energy Body

In Yin Yoga we practice sequences of poses that directly target areas of the physical body but also specific meridian lines. Meridians are part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and are channels where Qi (pronounced Chi) flows.

Qi is the vital life force of the body. Having enough Qi flowing smoothly in the meridians is key to health and longevity in body and mind. A Yin practice helps to make space in the meridians for the energy to flow easily.

Cost

£10 per class
