Guess what I've got hidden in my closet .......... 😬
This morning as I began my daily row - BTW we are now on 586,000 meters.
I flicked on Spotify 🎧 and it just happened to be John Denver.
Okay I'm a closet Country fan.
Then I remembered that that Glen Cambell has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease back in 2011.
However, with the support of his family, he was able to continue doing the thing he loved most, which was performing live on stage.
His wife, Kim is reported, as saying that being able to continue performing enhanced his quality of life and allows him to stay engaged.
Farewell Tour:
The "Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me" documentary film followed his final tour, showcasing his performances despite the progression of Alzheimer's. His children were part of his backup band, making it a family affair.
Music and Memory:
Music is believed to reside in parts of the brain that are less affected by Alzheimer's in the early stages. This allowed Campbell to still play and sing, even when struggling with other aspects of memory.
At Mo's memory café at GoodOaks Homecare in Worthing we always ask our visitors, what type of music they would like to listen to, and more often than not having music playing in the background or indeed loud - gets people smiling.
I certainly remember this with my own Mum, who was an avid Jim Reeves fan ( ooops that where I got the Country gene from ) she was able to recall all of the words to his songs, even in the latter stages of her illness - often we found ourselves giggling and singing out of tune for hours on end !
So let's crank the music up and get those memories going !
