Often our feet are our last thought when it comes to self care, but they are the gateway to the rest of our body so shouldn’t they be a top priority? Here are our top six ways to keep feet healthy and happy:
1. Moisturise Daily – Apply a foot cream or lotion, especially after bathing, to prevent dryness and tough skin buildup. Avoid applying lotion between the toes to prevent fungal infections.
2. Exfoliate Regularly – Use a pumice stone or foot scrub to remove dead skin cells and prevent calluses from forming. Doing this after a shower or bath, when the skin is softer, is most effective.
3. Wear Proper Footwear – Choose well-fitting shoes with good support and avoid tight, ill-fitting, or high-heeled shoes that can cause friction and pressure, leading to tough skin.
4. Keep Feet Clean and Dry – Wash feet daily with mild soap, thoroughly dry them (especially between the toes), and wear moisture-wicking socks to prevent fungal infections and excess skin buildup.
5. Trim Nails Properly – Cut toenails straight across and not too short to prevent ingrown nails, which can lead to infections and discomfort.
6. Manage Pressure Points – Use cushioned insoles or orthotics if needed, and address any foot deformities (like bunions or flat feet) with proper support to prevent excessive pressure that can cause calluses or hard skin.
