The recent BSI Standards Publication on Su***de and the Workplace underscores a critical truth: su***de prevention is not just a personal or clinical issue, it’s a workplace imperative.

Too often, stigma and lack of confidence prevent open conversations about su***de, even though the statistics are stark. 1 in 4 adults have thought of taking their own life, and 1 in 13 have attempted it. For every death by su***de, at least 135 people are exposed and potentially impacted – colleagues, clients, and communities.

The workplace is uniquely positioned to break the silence. Training equips employees and managers with the skills to recognise warning signs, hold supportive conversations and signpost to help.

This is especially urgent for men’s mental health. In the UK, su***de is the leading cause of death for men under 50. 14 men die by su***de every day. Three-quarters of all su***des are male, and three times as many men die by su***de each year as in vehicle accidents.

At West Sussex Mind, we provide evidence-based training to help organisations create safe, supportive environments where everyone can thrive. Together, we can turn awareness into action and save lives.
