This week is Dying Matters Week ๐Ÿ’œ

Death, dying and bereavement affect us all, so we should talk about them more. Dying Matters Week is an opportunity to raise awareness and encourage all communities to get talking in whatever way, shape or form works for them.

The yew trees found in so many of our churchyards are there for reasons far older than the churches themselves. Revered across ancient Roman, Norse, and Celtic cultures as symbols of both death and eternal life, these remarkable trees have marked our places of rest for millennia.

Here in the Cotswolds we are lucky enough to have some wonderful examples, such as the ancient yews standing sentinel either side of the church door at Stow-on-the-Wold and the sculpted yews of Painswick churchyard.
