Changes to your hearing don't just happen in old age, so its important to make sure you’re getting hearing tests early on in life. 15% of under 69s will experience noise-induced hearing loss. It is a good idea in your early 20's to start having a baseline hearing check, repeating this every three years. If you have a family history of hearing loss, or you’re over 40, then it’s wise to get tested every 2 years.

2024 was the year The Hearing Lounge launched, so it feels a great time to share this video of the making of our clinic.

Hearing is one of the five direct senses, along with vision, touch, smell and taste. It is one of our senses that's on 24/7 - it alerts us to danger (traffic/ fire alarms etc). It's fascinating understanding the links between our senses.

At The Hearing Lounge we have a real Christmas tree in our lounge area, so it smells of Christmas. We want you to be able to relax and enjoy the lounge area whilst drinking a cup of tea or coffee and a chocolate before your appointment. It is also beautifully decorated with some locally made baubles - the Snowman and Robin from Blue Coat School - WUE PTA Crafty Creators Market, where local school children could experience being an entrepreneur through selling their creations.

Fun Facts: Smell is powerfully connected to our emotional memories and the brain processes emotions and sound in the same location, our amygdala, located in the temporal lobe.

At The Hearing Lounge we believe it's really important to look after your hearing health and to be proactive in recognising changes to your hearing levels early. It's also important to protect your hearing using hearing protection or ear defenders, when exposed to loud noise.

We recognise the importance of 'Hearing' in our overall wellbeing. As the social sense 'Hearing' connects us to people, places and music can evoke emotions. To get the most accurate results you should have your hearing checked in a soundproof booth by an Audiologist. We offer free hearing checks for anyone over 40 - this includes video otoscopy, checking the outer ear, ear canal and tympanic membrane (eardrum), followed by a hearing check in a soundproof booth using the latest equipment.

For those who want more than a hearing check, we offer an Advanced Hearing Evaluation and Consultation. In addition to the hearing test, this includes further testing to look at speech recognition in quiet and noise, tympanometery to evaluate your middle ear, tinnitus evaluation or hearing aid demonstration, where applicable.
