Social Media & Internet Policy for Patients

There are many social media platforms that are widely used by both staff and patients at Beechley Medical Centre

Beechley Medical Centre has both a Facebook & Instagram page which provides a range of useful information for our patient population. Beechley Medical Centre has a duty to maintain patient confidentiality and to safeguard vulnerable patients. You can help us achieve this by adhering to the code of conduct outlined in this policy. Patients at Beechley Medical Centre are expected to adhere to the following code of conduct at all times:

2.The practice requires all users of portable devices to use them in a courteous and considerate manner, respecting their fellow patients. Portable devices are not to be used during consultations unless agreed by clinicians.
3.Patients are not permitted to disclose any patient-identifiable information about other patients, unless they have the express consent of that patient.
4.Patients should not use any social media platform to communicate medical information with the practice as this is not secure. Any such communications will be deleted and, if possible, a message sent to use routine communication methods with the practice.
5.Patients must not post any material that is inaccurate, fraudulent, harassing, embarrassing, obscene, defamatory or unlawful. Any such posts on the practice social media outlets like a page, Instagram account, etc will be deleted by the practice and the post reported.
6.Patients must not post comments on social media that identify staff who work at the practice.
7.Defamatory comments about our team are not to be shared on any social media or review platform. Legal advice will be sought and the appropriate action taken against any patient who posts defamatory comments. Patients will also be asked to register elsewhere if there is deemed to be a breakdown of the Patient and GP relationship. Patient complaints on social media

We have a separate complaints policy which patients are to use should they wish to make a complaint. We will only respond to complaints made to the practice in accordance with the practice policy. If a complaint is made on any social media platform that the practice uses, it may be deleted at the discretion of the practice.

MENINGITIS

Understandably we are getting queries about the Meningitis outbreak in Kent, including patients requesting to have the Meningitis B Vaccination.

In Wales the Men B vaccine is routinely offered to babies at 8 weeks of age, 12 weeks of age and 12-13 months of age. This was introduced in 2015.

At the moment there is no NHS vaccination process for children or adults outside of these age groups.

More information can be found on the Public Health Wales website.

Public Health Wales is the national public health agency in Wales and exists to protect and improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities for people in Wales. We are part of the NHS and report to the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Well-being and Sport in the Welsh Government.

Meningitis B Queries

We are receiving a high number of enquiries regarding the vaccine status of some of our patients who currently attend or are planning to attend university.

Please be advised that the vaccination campaign for Meningitis B commenced for infants only in 2015, therefore anyone aged 11/12 or over will not have received it.

We are sorry but we are unable to vaccinate any patients outside of the guidelines (infants only).

You might be able to obtain the vaccine privately at local pharmacies

Multiple sclerosis causes dozens of symptoms, including ones you’ll never see.

Invisible effects like anxiety, fatigue, pain, and cognitive changes shape every decision of daily life for people living with MS. Even on good days, MS is still there, and it doesn’t show up in the same way for everyone. Recognizing the varied and unseen symptoms of MS is an important step toward earlier recognition, better conversations with care teams, and deeper understanding for those living with the disease.

So it’s time to set a few things straight.

If you know someone expecting a baby, tag them in the comments - so they don’t end up buying expensive products that don’t follow safer sleep guidelines.

The HPV vaccine helps protect against several cancers, including cervical cancer, as well as cancers of the mouth, throat and ge****ls.
It’s offered to boys and girls in school to help protect them later in life.
The vaccine does not protect against all HPV types, so attending cervical screening when invited is still important.
