Meet the team - Claire McBride (Physiotherapist)

Claire started her career working in sport, exercise and nutrition. With an interest in sports injuries and rehabilitation, Claire used her skills and knowledge in strength and conditioning to work closely with individuals on GP Referral Schemes, (including post physiotherapy, cardiac and stroke rehab, pre- and post-natal pregnancy) to meet their health and fitness needs, while also working part-time as a physiotherapy assistant. Claire was then given the opportunity to manage three fitness centres within the Occupational Health & Fitness sector. Claire’s ambitions and passion to injury rehabilitation continued to grow, leading her into the world of MSK physiotherapy.

Claire continues to enjoy exercise and fitness in her leisure time while also enjoying her other hobbies of crafting and DIY. Claire has recently helped, alongside her father, in the renovation of her family home. Her biggest sporting achievement was representing Wales in cross-country running

Meet the Team - Alison Hughes (Physiotherapist)

Alison trained at Manchester Royal Infirmary, gaining a BSc in Physiotherapy in 1988. Her first role after graduating from university was in the NHS, where she worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings, and developed her passion for musculoskeletal physiotherapy, having a special interest in Orthopaedics and Rheumatology, alongside this Alison joined Wrexham Physiotherapy Clinic in 1990.

Alison further developed her knowledge of musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries working at the practice, a local GP surgery and more recently as a physiotherapist for M Sport Ford World Rally team. In addition, she has experience in occupational health, has been clinical assessor for Salford University School of Physiotherapy and a lecturer in Sports and Exercise therapy at Wrexham University.

Alison believes that the most important aspect of her physiotherapy practice is understanding her patients’ symptoms and concerns, discussing assessment findings and treatment options, then tailoring a plan of action to resolve their issues and return them to full pain free activity, be it walking the dog or participating in elite sports.

Outside of work Alison has a very busy family life, having 3 adult children and 5 grandchildren. She still has a passion for motorsport, and avidly follows the progress of her former colleagues in the World Rally Championship. She enjoys walking (in good weather) and loves to travel as often as opportunities arise

Shockwave Therapy

We are the only private physio clinic in Wrexham able to offer Shockwave Therapy to our clients, previously this modality has only been available privately via a hospital consultant, resulting in a large financial outlay. We are pleased to provide this treatment at our standard treatment charges.

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy is a procedure that passes acoustic shock waves through the skin, via a handheld tool, which is applied by the physiotherapist. The shockwaves are mechanical, not electrical; they are audible, high frequency soundwaves which work by increasing the blood flow to the injured area, this accelerates the body’s healing process. Extracorporeal means outside the body, therefore it is a non-invasive, effective method for the treatment of localised musculoskeletal pathologies. Shockwave therapy can be used for both chronic and acute soft tissue disorders. The treatment produces an inflammatory response, the body responds by increasing metabolic activity around the area of pain, this in turn stimulates & accelerates the healing processes, promoting neovascularization, collagen production and remodelling of dysfunctional collagenous tissues. Shockwaves can also break down scar tissue & calcification within the damaged structures.

Indications for use include:

* Acute muscle strain healing
* Muscle regeneration support
* Acute muscle spasm
* Jumpers knee
* Tennis elbow/Golfers elbow
* Painful Shoulder/frozen shoulder / Rotator cuff disorders
* Groin pain
* Achilles tendon pain
* Plantar fasciitis/Heel spurs
* Low back pain

How many treatments will I need?

Most conditions require three to five sessions. The treatments are done 5-10 days apart, depending upon your specific requirements

What is the success rate of this treatment?

Reported rate of clinical success is between 77 and 80 percent worldwide. Each treatment is cumulative, and results are often felt after three or four sessions. You may even feel an improvement in your condition (usually a reduction of pain) after the very first treatment. Although short term effects are excellent, the long-term benefits of treatment may continue to improve for 3-4 months after treatment is completed

We have availability to start treatment right away so if you have any questions or would like to book please do give us a call on 01978291154

Meet the Team - Sarah Parker (Physiotherapist)

Sarah graduated from Northumbria University with a BSC in Physiotherapy in 2005.

Sarah has worked for Wrexham Physiotherapy Clinic since 2006 and over the years has treated clients with a diverse range of conditions and injuries. Throughout her career Sarah has worked in private practice, GP practices and within numerous companies providing Occupational Health physiotherapy. Sarah is a member of the ‘Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Occupational Health’.

Over the years Sarah has treated clients from numerous sporting backgrounds, being privileged to provide physiotherapy to a team prior to the 2012 Olympics was a highlight and also to international tennis tournaments and local football teams.

Sarah is a compassionate Physiotherapist who understands the need for a thorough, well researched patient assessment and treatment plan. Sarah’s areas of expertise focus on a range of musculoskeletal (MSK injuries). She can use a wide selection of treatment techniques including (but certainly not limited to) hands on treatment, exercise and movement rehabilitation, shockwave therapy and condition education. Sarah is keen to empower clients on their injuries/conditions to help improve their quality of life and build a good physio-client alliance, and will happily enjoy a natter and laughter along the way.

Outside of work Sarah loves to spend time with her daughter who certainly keeps her on her toes. Sarah has enjoyed participating in various activities over the years, most recently she took up netball again with a ‘back to netball’ team which she has thoroughly enjoyed. Sarah loves to travel and spend time with family and friends, and will always appreciate a good book recommendation; especially thrillers.
