Mind and Body Skills for Spring
The snow and frost can make us wonder…
Will anything grow?

And sometimes we quietly ask ourselves the same thing.

Will I grow?
Will I move through my winter?
Winter is a time for listening. Beneath the stillness, something is always happening. Roots strengthen. Energy gathers. Change prepares quietly.
The same is true for us.

Planning ahead begins with presence now — pausing, connecting inward, and listening deeply to what the body is saying.

Are you in tune with this season? What feels ready to emerge?
If you’d like support through yoga or Rosen Method as we move into spring, I’d love to hear from you.

Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, let a smile grace your lips. In this moment, right here, right now, you are alive, you are present. This breath, this smile, they anchor us in the beauty of the present moment. As Thich Nhat Hanh reminds us, 'Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out, I smile. Dwelling in the present moment, I know this is the only moment.' Let's cherish this moment, for it is all we truly have."

It seems I’m never short of company when I roll out the yoga mat.

These three are always close by, quietly reminding me of something very simple — how natural it is to stretch, rest, pause and just be present.

Dogs don’t rush their movements. They listen to their bodies. They stretch when they wake, rest when they’re tired and fully enjoy the moment they’re in.

Perhaps they’re better yogis than most of us.

A gentle reminder today to slow down, take a stretch, and breathe — just as nature intended.

Through the cracks of our experiences, our vulnerabilities, and our imperfections, streams of light find their way into our souls, illuminating the path towards growth and transformation.

Let us embrace the cracks in our hearts and spirits as gateways to deeper understanding and profound beauty. Together, let us allow the light to permeate every aspect of our being, guiding us towards a place of wholeness and authenticity.

The Belly and the Breath 💚

The belly is home to our gut feelings — literally. When we’re anxious, the vagus nerve signals the body to tighten and pull inward, reducing breath and slowing digestion. Over time, this can feel like a “knot” in the stomach.

Rosen work helps restore connection between the diaphragm, breath, and belly. By helping the nervous system shift into parasympathetic (rest and digest) mode, the body begins to trust safety again. Breath deepens, emotion moves, and calm returns.

Grief doesn’t just live in the mind — it lives in the body. It’s in the tightness of the chest, the lump in the throat, the heaviness behind the eyes. When loss touches us, our nervous system instinctively protects us by contracting. The breath shortens, the shoulders round, and over time we can find ourselves holding that ache quietly inside.

It’s not about “getting over” grief. It’s about allowing ourselves to be with it...to feel, connect, and eventually soften into a quieter sense of wholeness. When the body feels safe enough to release, something tender and human returns: presence, love, and a little more space to breathe.

Why Rosen feels especially meaningful in Spring

As the days grow lighter and the first signs of spring begin to appear, I’m reminded why Rosen Method feels so special. It’s a way of gently coming back to yourself — softening the places that have been holding through winter, listening to what lies beneath the tension, and allowing space for the breath and natural energy of the body to return.

Spring is a season of quiet emergence. Many of us begin to feel a subtle pull toward renewal — a desire to move, breathe more deeply, and reconnect with ourselves after the stillness of the colder months.

Rosen offers a calm, accepting space for that process. A place where body and mind can meet, where tension can soften, and where we can simply be rather than do.

If you feel that gentle stirring of something wanting to open this spring, I’d love to share this work with you.

Our breath is an incredible gift...a bridge between the conscious and unconscious parts of ourselves. In the rush of everyday life, we often forget how powerful a simple deep breath can be.

Just a few slow, intentional breaths can calm the nervous system, clear the mind, and help us reconnect with our bodies.

Taking a moment to pause and breathe creates space — space for clarity, steadiness, and a greater sense of ease.

If you’d like to explore breathwork more deeply, I offer one-to-one sessions dedicated to these practices.

When You Feel Stuck, Frozen or Disconnected 💚

When the nervous system becomes overwhelmed, it often shifts into dorsal vagal shutdown — a state where everything feels foggy, heavy, or “far away.” It’s not laziness. It’s not failure. It’s your body protecting you by slowing everything down.

But there are ways to gently guide yourself back into connection:

Try these somatic exercises:
• Orienting – slowly look around your room and name what you see, letting the eyes move softly.
• Squeezing your upper arms – gentle pressure wakes up proprioception and brings you back into your body.
• Press your feet into the ground – even seated, push down for 5 seconds, release, repeat.
• Place a hand on your chest + belly – follow your breath without trying to change it.

These simple practices tell your nervous system, “It’s safe to come back.”
And when the body feels safe, the mind eventually follows.

If you’re feeling stuck, frozen, or numb, Rosen Method Bodywork and somatic yoga can help you thaw gently and reconnect from the inside out.
