On this date in 1552, the second version of the Book of Common Prayer was published, with the first having been in 1549. This was designed to replace the Latin rites, in line with the English Reformation, started by Henry VIII, in order to make services more accessible to the general population.

Further adaptations were made in 1559 and 1662 to reflect on theological and liturgical developments within the church.
