OUTSTANDING WORK

Stretching & Mobility: Your Secret Weapon on Race Weekends

Racing isn’t just about horsepower—it’s about body power. Whether you’re gripping the wheel or sprinting through the paddock, your body needs to be primed and ready. That’s where stretching and mobility come in.

Why it matters:

• Keeps muscles activated and responsive
• Prevents stiffness from long stints in the car
• Boosts circulation and mental focus

3 essential stretches for every racer:

1. Quad Stretch – Crucial for loosening up the front of the thighs, especially after sitting in the cockpit for extended periods. Helps maintain posture and leg control.

2. Calf Stretch – Vital for pedal feel and ankle mobility. Tight calves can limit your braking finesse and cause fatigue.

3. Arm Circles – Simple but powerful. Warms up the shoulders and arms for steering precision and reduces tension from holding the wheel under load.

Add these to your pre-race and post-session routine. Your body will stay race-ready, and your performance will thank you.

KEEPING COOL IN THE HEAT
Overheating poses serious risks for racing drivers, both physically and mentally. Here’s a breakdown of the key dangers:

Heat Exhaustion & Heatstroke
• Heat exhaustion can cause headaches, muscle cramps, dizziness, and fatigue—making it harder to concentrate and react quickly.
• Heatstroke is more severe, occurring when core body temperature exceeds 104°F (40°C). It can lead to confusion, seizures, unconsciousness, and even coma

Dehydration
• Drivers can lose up to 5% of their body fluids through sweat during a race. Dehydration affects cognitive function, reaction time, and decision-making, all of which are critical in high-speed environments.

Impaired Mental Performance
• High cockpit temperatures—often exceeding 50°C (122°F)—can reduce focus, slow reflexes, and impair judgment
• Mental fatigue increases the risk of mistakes, which can be dangerous at racing speeds.
