⭐️ Should I race? ⭐️
⭐️ On Saturday I’ve got a half marathon. I entered it while I was deep into marathon training. But I haven’t done any consistent running since May, and the furthest I’ve run is 10km and that was on the 1st of June. I’m still burnt out from the summer holidays, and I’m just getting back into consistent training.
⭐️ Now I know I could run a half marathon if I had to, but the question is, is it a good idea?
⭐️ No, it is not a good idea. My risk of injury will be pretty high, I’ll most likely take a longer time than usual to recover, and to be honest, I don’t really want to!
⭐️ If you find yourself in a similar situation, here are some questions to ask yourself (swipe to read 👉🏻)
⭐️ If you have trained for your race, you feel ready, and you want to then go for it!
⭐️ If you haven’t trained specifically for it but you’ve been cross training and it’s not a huge jump in volume then go for it!
⭐️ If your training has been going really well but you’ve picked up a ni**le in the last week or so, and you really want to race, then maybe give it a go! Especially if it’s your A race.
⭐️ If you haven’t trained for it, it is a big jump in volume (for example 21km not 10km) then you would be wise to not race!
⭐️ Ultimately it’s your choice though, and if you need a good physio afterwards get in touch 😉
