⭐️ Rehab mistakes are normal ⭐️

⭐️ Rehabbing an injury is long and boring and frustrating, so you will likely at some point make a mistake by doing too much and your symptoms might feel worse

⭐️ This is NORMAL! And part of rehab

⭐️ So don’t panic. Drop your training or rehab back down a bit. Not all the way. But ease off to let your symptoms settle down again, and then rebuild

⭐️ And always listen to your physio’s advice but don’t copy them 😉

⭐️ Hope you’ve enjoyed these videos of me post sweaty run in

⭐️ Want to know a secret? ⭐️

⭐️ Rehab is boring. It’s not a quick fix. It’s not wierd and wonderful Instagram exercises with all sorts of bits of kit.

⭐️ It’s patience. Modifying load. Changing range of movement. Doing less of it. Slowing down. Focusing on the eating well, staying hydrated and managing stress.

⭐️ And following the advice of your physio 😉

⭐️ But does your time matter? ⭐️

Abersoch 10k is my favourite race of the year because it’s such a beautiful run in my happy place

….and this year it almost didn’t happen! I’ve had the date saved since last year but turns out I forgot to actually enter it! 🙈Thankfully a lovely angel called Poppy saw me looking really sad at registration, told me she wasn’t racing and said I could have her number 🥰 Thank you Poppy!

And because of that, I ran the whole thing with the biggest grin on my face! All my favourite songs came on, there was dancing, arm actions, some singing and a lot of smiling 😁 and I didn’t look at my watch at all.

I crossed the line and looked at my watch…just over an hour. And I instantly felt a bit of disappointment. My slowest Abersoch 10k. At times I felt I’d been running quite well. But then I realised that I had loved the run. I had enjoyed it so much. Does the time really matter? Nope. No it does not.

I can say that I’m a bit injured, I’m really burnt out, the course was really busy as some excuses, but I ran the whole thing with no stopping and really enjoyed it.

So what’s the most important thing? Getting a good time? Or having a good run and really enjoying it?

It’s also easy to forget that 10k is a long way, and being able to run that distance non-stop is a big achievement. And before that I’d also run the 3k beach run with my gorgeous family 🥰

Life is busy and chaotic and we always put too much pressure on ourselves. Maybe we should just enjoy the ride a bit more

⭐️ I’m still here! ⭐️

⭐️ I haven’t posted for a while because life has been busy so here’s a quick recap of the past few weeks:

🩷 I got to live my best life at the anniversary comp dressing up as Glinda and reminding myself that I can still sn**ch 50kg and clean and jerk 70kg despite never training them properly (I wonder what I could do if I did train them? 🤔)

❤️ There’s been a bit of running and outside training (my husband and I may have signed up for Rome marathon next year, and yes that is the same husband that had a total hip replacement last August 💪🏻)

💜 There have been weddings and birthday celebrations with my favourite run coach (who is also my Elphaba)

💚 We got a cat and my daughter couldn’t be happier

💙 Oh and we’re having some building work done to our house, just to add to the chaos!

So I’m still here, life is really busy but I have always got time for patients ☺️

And if you’ve read this far, please like this post 💜

⭐️ Once more for the people at the back…. ⭐️

⭐️ Time off from your usual routine is good for you.

⭐️ It will give your body and brain a reset

⭐️ It doesn’t have to mean time off training, but if you want a break from training then go for it

⭐️ It doesn’t have to be for long, even a day can help

⭐️ But do your body (and your physio 😉) a favour and take some time off

⭐️ Be where your feet are ⭐️

⭐️ Not where they were, not where they might be, where they are right now

⭐️ This is a really good thing to practise if you find yourself worrying about the past, or something that might happen in the future. Stay present. Focus on what you can control right now

⭐️ It’s easy to dwell on why you got injured or how long it might take to get better, and that can be stressful and make you unhappy. So try to practice this instead 💜

⭐️ And if you need help with an injury I can help- get in touch 📩

⭐️ Sunday morning run ramblings ⭐️

⭐️ Not sure why I’ve recorded this as I know hardly anyone will see it, but even if it helps remind one person that doing what you can with the time/ resources/ motivation that you’ve got is better than doing nothing, then I’ll be happy ☺️

⭐️ Also, enjoy me having to split a recording into three clips because apparently reels can’t be longer than 90 seconds again, and also enjoy me saying “fasted” instead of “fuelled” in the second clip 😂🙈

⭐️ For enquires about my excellent social media content just get in touch 😉😂

⭐️ Look back ⭐️

⭐️ Whether it’s injury related or life related we often don’t see the progress or changes we’re making because we’re busy living in it

⭐️ And then I was journaling today and went back to the beginning of the book and was reminded that 4 years ago my fledgling business was stressing me out and imposter syndrome was strong (we were also deep in another lockdown and home schooling but that’s another story!)

⭐️ And now I still worry about my business, but it has built up so much and I’m so proud of it

⭐️ It’s often the same with injuries because they can seem like they’re taking forever to get better, and to get you back to doing everything you loved, but I often like to discuss with patients how they were at their initial appointment, so they can hopefully see that they’re making progress 💜

⭐️ Should I race? ⭐️

⭐️ On Saturday I’ve got a half marathon. I entered it while I was deep into marathon training. But I haven’t done any consistent running since May, and the furthest I’ve run is 10km and that was on the 1st of June. I’m still burnt out from the summer holidays, and I’m just getting back into consistent training.

⭐️ Now I know I could run a half marathon if I had to, but the question is, is it a good idea?

⭐️ No, it is not a good idea. My risk of injury will be pretty high, I’ll most likely take a longer time than usual to recover, and to be honest, I don’t really want to!

⭐️ If you find yourself in a similar situation, here are some questions to ask yourself (swipe to read 👉🏻)

⭐️ If you have trained for your race, you feel ready, and you want to then go for it!

⭐️ If you haven’t trained specifically for it but you’ve been cross training and it’s not a huge jump in volume then go for it!

⭐️ If your training has been going really well but you’ve picked up a ni**le in the last week or so, and you really want to race, then maybe give it a go! Especially if it’s your A race.

⭐️ If you haven’t trained for it, it is a big jump in volume (for example 21km not 10km) then you would be wise to not race!

⭐️ Ultimately it’s your choice though, and if you need a good physio afterwards get in touch 😉

💥 MoveWell is 4 💥

⭐️ And what a 4 years it has been! Starting up in the middle of a pandemic, juggling two children, a dog and a husband, training for various events, coaching, school holidays and trying to keep up to date with research and treatment and trying to banish the imposter syndrome.

⭐️ A huge percentage of small businesses close down within a year, so I feel incredibly proud that I’m still here 💜

⭐️ It’s been full of ups and downs, and worry and stress, but mainly I am the happiest I have ever been. I love my job, I love my little clinic, I love my clients.

⭐️ I will be forever grateful to for suggesting this and giving me the space to do, and the support from everyone

⭐️ So thank you to everyone who has ever been to see me, to those who keep coming to see me, and to everyone who supports me and my little business 🥰
