If you’re bottle-feeding, breastfeeding, combi feeding or thinking about weaning onto solids and need some support do come along and see me 😊

It might be cold outside but our room is lovely and warm. There’s a cafe in the church where you can buy a nice hot drink too 😊 Parking is free on the high street for an hour and we’re just a 2 minute walk from there 😊

It’s so tempting to take a little peek just to check how well your baby is latched. So with your finger you just pull back some of your breast so that you can take a peek at your baby’s mouth. The problem is you’ve also taken some breast tissue out of your baby’s mouth causing the latch to become shallow.

Signs your baby is latched well without taking a peek 🫣 ⬇️

👶 it’s comfortable and pain free
👶 your baby’s chin is touching your breast and nose is close
👶 your baby’s cheeks are touching your breast, are full and rounded
👶 you can’t see your baby’s lips
👶 the distance between baby’s nose and chin is nice and wide
👶 baby is sucking and swallowing rhythmically with some pauses

A few extra millimetres of breast tissue in your baby’s mouth really does make a huge difference 💕

If the latch looks good but it’s painful or you can hear your baby clicking when feeding, if your ni**le is misshapen or your baby is unsettled after a feed do seek skilled feeding support x

🍼 Struggling to find milk for your formula-fed baby because of the ?

TOP TIPS
🤱 If you’re mixed feeding, more if you can

1️⃣ You can use any first infant formula for 0-12 months, whether powdered or liquid – they all provide the nutrients your baby needs. You may notice changes in your baby’s poo but switching between first infant formulas is safe

2️⃣ Follow on formula can be used for 6-12 months (whether powdered or liquid) but NEVER give follow-on formula to babies under 6 months old

3️⃣ 4️⃣ NEVER give growing up or toddler milks or drinks to babies under 12 months

❌ Be aware that no formula milks are necessary at all for children over 12 months

❗ Only use a specialised formula milk (lactose-free, anti-reflux, comfort) on the advice of a medical professional

REMEMBER
🦠 Powdered formula milks are NOT STERILE: Always follow the NHS advice on making up and storing formula to minimise the risk of bacterial contamination which can make your baby sick.

🤖 Formula preparation machines often do not produce water that is hot enough to kill any bacteria in the formula powder, so it’s best to avoid using them at all.

There’s no better smell than your newborn baby’s head 💕 Smelling your baby’s head triggers chemical changes in your brain and releases oxytocin - the love hormone 💕 when we put a hat on a newborn we interfere with this natural process.

Skin to skin with your baby is the perfect way to keep your baby warm, helps regulate their heart rate and body temperature as well as getting feeding off to a good start. Babies don’t need hats to keep warm 😊

Really good to think ahead to the festive season and how you’re going to manage breastfeeding whether that’s escaping the hustle and bustle to a quiet room stashed with mince pies and quality street or been assertive with Aunty Ethel that you really do need your baby back now and are going to feed her 😊 oh yes and perhaps a big napkin to catch any mashed potato that falls on baby’s head as you eat your Xmas dinner whilst breastfeeding 😀🎄🤱🏽
