🩺Today we’re looking at the third of our key findings from the recent health survey

The survey highlighted the number of children and young people across Bristol, North Somerset and South Glos who are dealing with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Many families described their experiences that Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAHMS) referrals are typically only accepted when crisis point is reached. There is limited awareness of and/or lack of access to early intervention services

🩺Today we’re looking at the second of our key findings from the recent health survey

There was evidence of some education settings proactively addressing and supporting children’s health needs. However, many parent carers faced barriers including but not limited to services having restrictive eligibility criteria and long waiting lists.

🩺Today we’re looking at the first of our key findings from the recent health survey
The survey highlighted the issue that the lack of joined up working across different services causes for families. Parents report being passed between different services without receiving the support and information they need, creating a frustrating cycle.

In December 2025, working jointly with the parent carer forums in Bristol and North Somerset we asked parent carers to share their experiences of accessing healthcare for their child or young person.

💙A heartfelt thank you to all of you who took the time to complete the survey

Your voices truly matter - by sharing your experiences and feedback, you've played an important role in helping healthcare providers understand the real challenges faced by families of children and young people with SEND. Your input will support meaningful conversations around what needs to change.

“Masking” refers to when an individual hides or suppresses symptoms, behaviours, or difficulties they are experiencing. While it can happen intentionally, it often occurs unconsciously over time as the person receives negative feedback for their authentic presentation.

While many think of masking as a neurodivergent behaviour, particularly for autistic people or those with ADHD, people with various diagnoses mask for a variety of reasons.

This workshop covers:
What is Masking?
What is Fawning?
How does it impact the individual and the family?
How can we identify and support it?

This 2-hour session is for families with children aged 0 - 25 and will be delivered ONLINE via Zoom. This workshop will be recorded.
The workshop will be delivered by Corrina from Platypus Training, who has a wealth of personal and professional experience of neurodiversity and a masters in Autism. She has worked as a Family Services Manager for over 15 years and has developed services for families, children and young people. Corrina has extensive experience of working with families where there are neurodivergent children.

Join us on 31st March 7pm, to book your spot please click on the link in the comments.

Have you been told your child is masking, but not sure what it means? Want to know more about masking and the impact it can have?
