The Neighbourhood Health Survey is part of work currently underway to shape the Neighbourhood Working approach across Hampshire, ensuring that the voices of local communities inform how health and care services are designed and delivered at a neighbourhood level.

It is important that they hear from a wide range of people so that the insights gathered reflect the diverse experiences and needs of our communities.

Director of Primary Care and Local Care, James Roach, said:
“The aim of neighbourhood health is exactly that – providing health and care services within local communities and delivering more care closer to home. As part of this, we have identified 24 areas across Hampshire that share certain characteristics. This means services can be tailored to better reflect the needs of people living in those communities. We’re now asking people in Hampshire for their views to see whether these proposed areas reflect their communities, or whether any adjustments are needed.”

We encourage you to ask for an appointment if you experience:

• Persistent heartburn, acid reflux, or indigestion for three weeks or more
• Difficulty or pain when swallowing
• A persistent unpleasant taste in the mouth or hiccups
• Unexplained weight loss
• Long-term use of over-the-counter indigestion remedies without review may mask more serious underlying conditions.

Cancer of the oesophagus is one of the UK’s least survivable cancers. This is often because it’s diagnosed far too late.

Symptom awareness that leads to early diagnosis is key to improving survival.

Early assessment can provide reassurance – or enable earlier diagnosis, which can significantly improve outcomes.

In the stories of people who have died of oesophageal cancer, we often hear phrases like ‘She had heartburn for years but thought it was normal’ and ‘He just kept taking the Gaviscon and got on with it’.
