Thank you Dartmoor Drum Sweat and Tales for gathering a beautiful bunch of people to our land!

Such a wonderful weekend ahead of us.

The embers are burning bright red, ready to welcome the stones for tomorrow’s sweat lodge!

Only a few more days and we'll be on Dartmoor, with Reiki, Drumming, Storytelling, Sweat Lodge and more. Today we went rock hunting (thank you Steve) and dropped the first load of rocks off at The Old Mine House, which was looking lovely in the Spring sunshine. Thank you Maggi Squire, for your painting of The Storyteller.

The Dartmoor Drum Sweat and Tales Weekend is now only 21 days away! Thanks to Andy, Jon, Maggi and Steve we have sourced our willow and our rocks for the Sweat, and have piles of blankets ready. If you have an old woollen blanket (no family heirlooms!), please bring it with you. We are still looking for picnic chairs, camping chairs or garden chairs for people who don't want to sit on the floor, when we're sitting round the fire for story-telling or in the Reiki and Drumming Circles. If you have some you could bring, please let Louisa know. Groundsheets and cushions would be useful too. Devon is wearing her best Spring green, and the meadows are full of flowers. And if the Gathering is calling you, and you haven't yet booked your place, we have only a handful left...

Masked Dance, Gong Bath and Story Telling

As part of the Dartmoor Drum Sweat and Tales weekend, there will be Masked Dance, Gong Bath and Story Telling on Saturday 26th May, from about 7.30pm. This will take place after the Saturday Sweat Lodge and the evening meal.

Here's your chance to be mesmerised by a masked dance, relax into a gong bath, and resonate to a Tibetan Meditation Bowl. Enjoy a story or two around the camp fire. (If there's a Dartmoor Deluge we'll be in the Marquee!)

For this session you will need:
Warm clothing
A picnic chair or cushions (please bring your own if you can)
We'd love you to bring a story!

This session will be led by Maggi Squire, Sanjiv Fire Lotus and Louisa Booth

Dartmoor Drum Sweat and Tales 25-27th May 2018

The Dartmoor Drum Sweat and Tales weekend will include a Sweat Lodge, which will take place from 9.30am on the Saturday and/or Sunday

The sweat lodge ceremony is a time of purification for the spirit, mind, emotions and physical body. It recreates the womb; attending the sweat lodge is like going back to the womb of mother earth. It is a time to let go unnecessary fears and allow the new to come, a time for being reborn. It is also a time to be with your ancestors from the spirit world.
It starts at 9.30 because first we collect wood and build a magnificent fire to heat the stones. We need enough wood to keep the fire going all day. Meanwhile, we build the sweat lodge in the traditional way. When the lodge is built, and the stones are hot, we will start with a traditional pipe ceremony, followed by four rounds in the sweat lodge.

The Sweat Lodge will be led by Don Beacham and Anneli Twan

With thanks to Donna Harris for photos of Sweat Lodge preparations at The Salal, Anneli and Don's retreat on Vancouver Island.

The first event at the Dartmoor Drum Sweat and Tales weekend will be the Drum Circle, which will take place on Friday evening, at 7.30pm, after dinner at 6pm...

We'll start with a drum circle, to ensure you are fully present after your travels. The drum circle provides a guided journey into the Self. Experience a connection with the world and universe through the resonating drumbeat and authentic, never-recorded, native songs from time immemorial.
Led by Don Beacham
