I first read Voltaire as a teenager and always loved his witty works. Medical practices in 18th century France obviously left a lot to be desired!
Whilst modern medicine has come a long way since then, there’s no harm in giving nature a helping hand through a healthy lifestyle.

My garden here in Somerset is a treasure trove of herbs that I put to use as medicine.

Hawthorn flowers to heal the emotional heart ,dispel grief and give us courage.

The first elderflowers of summer in time for the hayfever season.

Cleavers, my go to herb to clear the lymphatic system.

Nettles, a tonic for the blood removing inflammation from the body. Nutrient dense, they are a free substitute for spinach.

All can be made as tea apart from cleavers which are best made as a cold infusion.

I love getting up in the early morning pre dawn. In Vedic tradition this time is known as Brahma Muhurta, the creator’s time, the golden hour.
I always start my day with a meditation and reflection on my intentions for the coming day but for me it is also important to get my body moving.
Some days this will be a power yoga practice but I also enjoy an early morning run.
Today it was just me and the birds enjoying the special light of this time of day here in Somerset.
Plenty of frozen puddles around so of course I had to be childish and stop to crack the ice. From -7 degrees yesterday, this morning was positively balmy at 3 degrees … already dreaming of summer days to come!!!
