☕️ Link. Laugh. Lounge.

As therapists, we know connection isn’t just good for us — it’s as essential as food and water.

And with more people feeling disconnected than ever, we wanted to do something about it.

So we approached the brilliant team at Barolo Lounge with an idea:
What if we created a space where anyone could turn up and find connection — no booking, no cost, no pressure?

They didn’t hesitate. And just like that, a Chatty Café table appeared on Yeovil high street.

It’s not therapy.
But it is a guaranteed warm welcome, a real conversation, and a reminder that you’re not alone.

(Oh — and your first hot drink’s on the house 💜🙏 Thanks, Barolo team!)

🧠 From 5/10 to 9/10 — in just two days.

That was the average leap in knowledge and confidence among our latest Mental Health First Aid course in Bristol!

We’re proud to be rated as one of the highest scoring MHFA providers in the country, with an average trainer rating of 9.98/10 across all our training products (March 2025).

But these aren’t just numbers.
They reflect real people feeling more prepared to support mental health — in their workplaces, families, and communities.

Our training is trauma-informed, psychologically grounded, and built to meet people where they’re at — then help them go further.

⚡Let’s be real: life is hard, and most of us are feeling the pressure.

It’s not just a bit hard —
it’s brutal sometimes.

We lose people.
We feel disconnected.
We face constant demands and impossible expectations.
We break down.
We smile through the chaos while quietly unravelling inside.

That’s not a you problem.
It’s become the norm.

And if you’re tired of pretending you’re fine —
if you’re for support from people who actually get it…

That’s where we come in.

We’re a team of therapists here for the times when life is kicking your a*s.

🧠 Therapy: Expectations vs Reality

Expectation:
I’ll feel better straight away.
It’ll be like self-care with fairy lights.
Peaceful. Calming. Kinda spa-like.

Reality:
You might feel a sense of relief at first.
Then you might hit a wall.
Some days, it might even feel heavier than when you started.

That’s because we’re not taught to sit with discomfort — we’re taught to avoid it.
To push it down, stay busy, keep moving.

But therapy asks something different.
Not to relive the pain — but to turn towards it, understand it, and gently let go of what’s been buried for too long.

That’s where the healing happens.
Not around the hard stuff.
Through it.

And you don’t have to do that alone.
The relationship with your therapist matters more than any technique.
It’s the trust, safety, and connection that make the hard parts bearable — and the healing, possible.

💬 If therapy feels hard right now, it doesn’t mean it’s not working.
It might mean you’re exactly where you need to be.

🔥 Heated debate: Is depression caused by a dysfuction in the brain or a response to the world we live in?

📈 Between 2014 and 2022, UK depression diagnoses nearly doubled, rising from **7.3% to 13.3%**¹.

Depression has long been presented as a brain dysfunction; suggested to be caused by a chemical imbalance, a faulty circuit, a medical disorder to be treated.

But is that the full picture?

🧠 Is it the brain?
🌍 Or is it the system we’re in?

What’s your take?

🧠 What a brilliant two days with our newest group of Mental Health First Aiders!

➡️ People from construction, education, IT, and the NHS
➡️ Seven strangers connected and shared
➡️ An environment of trust, teamwork, and openness

That’s what brings this training to life.

We don’t get through life without facing our own challenges.
That’s why this work is never just about others.

➡️ Mental Health First Aiders learn how to spot the signs
➡️ Support others effectively
➡️ And protect their own wellbeing, too

Because early support can make all the difference—for someone else, and for us.

Grateful to have shared this experience with such a thoughtful, engaged group.

🎉 Are you a volunteer? We’ve got 2 fully funded places (worth £325!) up for grabs!

Since the start of COVID, we’ve been running a volunteer programme that puts social value into action — and it’s still going strong. On every Mental Health First Aid course we run, we offer two fully-funded places to support those who give their time to others.

💥 Our next course is on 21st & 22nd July in Bristol, and we’ve got two funded spots available!

👉 If you’re a current volunteer, all we need is a quick email from your organisation confirming your status, and we’ll get you booked in. 📧

💡 Not a volunteer? No problem — our full two-day training is £325, and it’s delivered by one of the UK’s top-rated MHFA instructors, with an average 9.98/10 rating (MHFA England dashboard, March 2025). It’s an investment in wellbeing that can benefit your whole team.

If you’ve cut ties, you’ll be familiar with the “But they’re your family” guilt trip 💔.

This post is for you.

We support people with stories like this, and we know you didn’t stop contact with a parent or family member because things were “just difficult.”

It’s because the pain outweighed the possibility of building a healthy relationship.

And yet — you’ve probably heard things like:

🌀 “You’ll regret it when they’re gone.”
🌀 “They did their best.”
🌀 “You only get one mum/dad.”
🌀 “But it’s your family…”
🌀 “But they love you.”

People may mean well, or they may simply be filling the silence with something familiar.
Either way, we know how much it can sting.

Because choosing to stop the cycle? That’s not disloyal.
It’s healing.

💬 If you’ve never needed that boundary, that’s a privilege.
But if you have —
You’re not cold.
You’re not broken.
You’re doing what your younger self never had the power to do.

Loyalty isn’t a measure of how much harm you can tolerate.

When we keep shrinking to stay acceptable, that’s not compromise.
That’s self-sacrifice. ⚠️

Boundaries aren’t selfish — they protect the version of us that’s waking up.

The one buried under approval-seeking, over-giving, and staying quiet to keep the peace.

In therapy, boundaries shift.
They stop feeling like defence.
They start feeling like power.

⚡ They protect our energy.
🕊️ They protect our peace.
🛡️ They protect our values.
🔒 They protect the parts of us we’ve fought hard to reclaim.

Boundaries don’t end relationships —
they reveal which ones were never built to last.

We don’t owe anyone our self-betrayal.
We owe it to ourselves to live authentically 🙌🌟
