We are so proud of all of our volunteers but well done to Mark on winning the volunteer award this evening. A very well deserved award.

Andy Heron, chief operating officer, presents our next award, the Volunteer, Patient Partner or Expert by Experience Award.

Congratulations to our winner - Mark Felstead!

Since joining Yeovil District Hospital in 2018, Mark has become an irreplaceable part of the chaplaincy team. Mark gives his time generously, offering emotional and spiritual care to patients, families, and colleagues, including those experiencing baby loss, and tailoring funeral services with sensitivity across faiths and beliefs. His selflessness, versatility, and dedication have had a profound and lasting impact on our hospital community. Thank you Mark, and congratulations! 💙

Behind her orange hospital volunteer uniform, there is more to Jessica than you might expect…

Jessica spent three decades as a mineral economist before swapping her pinstriped business suits and kitten heels for dungarees and welly boots for a further 15 years as a sheep farmer! 🐑

Now, Jessica volunteers at Yeovil Hospital supporting as a mealtime companion and in our dementia-friendly garden., allowing her to reconnect with her community and enjoy a varied lifestyle where every shift is filled with human interaction. Her passion for learning has led her to complete training in dementia and end-of-life care, and now she’s stepping into a new role as one of our trust governors!

As we begin Volunteers’ Week, we thank Jessica and all our volunteers past and present who give their time, heart and energy to support our patients and colleagues to provide exceptional care 🧡

introduction

Hi everyone,

My name is Sam Bracher and I am the Youth Volunteer Coordinator at Yeovil District Hospital,

Working with young people and enabling them to acheive thier potential is a huge passion of mine, and it is an absolute privilege to be able to carry out this work here at YDH.

We have been lucky enough to have recieved funding from the PEARS foundation in order to run a youth volunteering scheme (more information via link below) and I am currently working with local schools, colleges, youth groups and staff here at the hospital to set up and run 8 week programs over the year for young volunteers to come on board. Not only to give assistance in many areas of the hospital, but also gain an enormous amount of new life long skills by volunteering here at YDH.
