People often ask me about the difference between the classes I offer. So here's a little round up π
Mixed ability yoga -
Well, this can be all and everything yoga! It really depends on who I've got in the room and what we're working on.
We include relaxation and stress relief techniques, with yoga philosophy layered throughout in a subtle and beautiful way.
We range from working on stunning vinyasa flows and fun transitions between poses, then longer hold poses to work on deep flexibility, presence and letting go.
It'll build strength, flexibility, mobility and calm.
I always include a relaxation at the end, which may be yoga nidra, meditation or just body/mind awareness to bring about a profound state of peace π
Suitable for all levels. If I have beginners in, I'll offer more advice and modifications. If it's an experienced group on the night, I'll offer more progressions and time for them to use their understanding of the practice to go deeper if desired
Gentle Yoga -
Heavily focused on finding peace of mind and relaxation as well as full body stretch and tension release.
Less of the stronger yoga poses and flow, but more time to transition and settle into some beautiful poses that just leave you feeling comfortable and relaxed. Suitable for all levels. Particularly favoured by those with any medical conditions or recovering from injury that needs a slower pace but still the chance to work on healing. I always include balance and stability work as well as stretching and breathing into the practice. Savasana tends to be deeply relaxing and peaceful. A time just for you
Morning Energising Yoga -
This class includes more movement and flow to uplift the body and mind. I won't lie, it can be challenging but always aimed at all abilities and I'll always guide the group through and new transitions we try. I like to get creative with our poses and flows π
As it's done in the morning, I'll spend a bit more time on mobility and awakening the body at the start of class.
I also always include a relaxation but more of a tension release than yoga nidra (yoga sleep) as I want people to leave feeling ready for the day ahead rather than ready for bed.
It's the perfect way to start the day to feel calm, comfortable and energised
Pilates -
A classic pilates practice focused on core strength, overall strengthening and body conditioning. A very physical class, in that I don't include a grounding or relaxation like I would in yoga. Focused heavily on control and alignemnt throughout the exercises.
We like to switch it up though. Sometimes we bring in pilates balls, resistance bands dumbbells etc. It's always fun and they love my dodgy 80s/90s playlist π
We include lots of stretches so we keep working on out flexibility as well as strength and mobility
Energising Yoga (formally Yoga Burn) -
What can I say! One of my favourite classes to teach. It's physical, it can be intense (depending on who's booked in and what they're up for) We move between vinyasa flow, power yoga and pilates exercises to seriously strengthen and tone up. It'll raise the heart rate more than other yoga classes so is incredible for cardiovascular health and weight maintenance. The playlist is always banging and it's a real mood boosting class.
We spend at least 20 minutes on deep stretch also so the muscles aren't left depleted and aching. I include a short relaxation for the body and mind to settle after the class and to promote an incredible night's sleep π₯°
Gentle Pilates -
A class I have inherited from another instructor that has now retired. Much like my usual pilates class except with less intensity and more focus on stability and balance. Building overall mobility and strength. Lots of postural correction and awareness in every exercise. I very much include stretch and release amongst the classic strengthening poses to keep the spine, shoulders and hips as free flowing as possible. I'll keep an eye on the class and listen to their feedback to know if there's anything specific we need to work on for a while. I also like to give them a little challenge to remind them of just how capable they are in their practice π
Beginners and Improvers Yoga-
Perfect for those that are new to yoga or coming back after a break. I explain what yoga is and why we do it as we go through the practice. Understanding the poses and transitions and taking time to work on the correct alignment for their bodies. Bit more focus on yoga breath to understand how to breathe in the poses.
It will build up strength, mobility and flexibility in a slower, controlled process.
We always spend time in the grounding to help let go of the external world and our thoughts to help people learn how to find presence in their practice.
I don't often include any flow so it's more classic hatha yoga. Definitely lots of balance work included.
I cover a range of modifications and options as the participants learn that they dont need to push themselves and do it all to be doing yoga. Yoga is about listening to your body and enjoying the practice. That's what we learn here
(I am looking to bring this to an evening class soon)
That's my regular weekly classes covered. There's so much more covered through workshops and retreats but that's enough to read for now isn't it?? π
