We shape the services locally and nationally with parent carers, by giving you the opportunity to have your say. We have a 'finding your way' online guide and opportunities to meet like minded parents and carers, to feel less isolated, share strategies, sharing information and to feel empowered. Job Vacancy: SEND Navigator โ€“ Taunton, Bridgwater and West Somerset Area

Fixed-Term, Part-Time (Term Time Plus)

ยฃ14 per hour | 20 hours per week over 3 days | Funded by The National Lottery

Location: West Somerset, Taunton, Bridgwater, and Highbridge (with travel across Somerset and 2 office days per month in Yeovil)

Are you passionate about supporting families and making a difference in the lives of children and young people with additional needs? We are looking for a dedicated SEND Navigator to join our team at Somerset Parent Carer Forum CIC, covering the west side of the county.

About the Role

SEND Navigators play a key role in helping families across Somerset access high-quality information, understand their rights, and navigate the support systems available to them. You will work alongside families, professionals, and communities to build relationships and improve outcomes for children and young people aged 0โ€“25 with additional needs and/or disabilities.
Key Responsibilities
โ€ข Collaborate with colleagues to organise support for families of children with identified or emerging SEND
โ€ข Provide accurate and timely information on a wide range of topics relevant to parent carers
โ€ข Promote the work and values of Somerset Parent Carer Forum within the community
โ€ข Help parent carers understand and support their childโ€™s needs
โ€ข Assist in organising and running events and training sessions for parent carers
โ€ข Capture and report common themes and emerging needs shared by families
โ€ข Uphold the values of equality, fairness, respect, and non-discrimination in all work
โ€ข Demonstrate a strong and active commitment to safeguarding

About You

Youโ€™ll need to be flexible, organised, and approachable, with a genuine commitment to supporting families. Experience of working with parent carers or within a SEND-related role is an advantage, but training will be provided. A lived experience as a parent carer is welcomed.

Somerset Parent Carer Forum CIC is a parent-led, independent organisation supporting families of children and young people with additional needs and disabilities across Somerset. We empower families through information, peer support, training, and by ensuring their voices are heard in the design of services.

Terms and Conditions

โ€ข Start date: Week commencing 8 September 2025
โ€ข Contract type: Fixed term until July 2028 (subject to funding)
โ€ข Probation period: six months
โ€ข Pay: ยฃ14 per hour
โ€ข Hours: 20 hours per week, over 3 days (term-time plus โ€“ 40 weeks/year)
โ€ข Location: Covering West Somerset, Taunton, Bridgwater and Highbridge with occasional travel across Somerset. Includes at least 2 office days per month in Yeovil
โ€ข Holiday: 5.6 weeks annual leave (including public/bank holidays), pro-rata
Job shares will be considered for the right candidate(s).

Weโ€™re really pleased to share that weโ€™ve been successful in securing a grant from the Community Inclusion and Activity Team, which means our Youth Group will continue running for another year.

Weโ€™re so happy to share this news, as our young people look forward to each session and have started forming lasting friendships. The club has become a true home away from home, a place where everyone feels safe, has fun, and builds meaningful connections.

The Community Inclusion and Activity Team (formerly the Short Breaks Team) supports children and young people aged 0โ€“17 with disabilities or additional needs. Their focus is on helping families try new things, have fun, and access their local community together.

Weโ€™re already in Week 2 of the summer holidays, and their calendar is packed full of SEN-friendly activities for all the family to enjoy! ๐ŸŽจโšฝ๐ŸŒณ
