TUESDAY TESTIMONIAL 🌺

It was very refreshing to read Andy’s words in the Google review that he kindly wrote that described Dot’s ceremony as not being ‘text book’.

Every ceremony I write is written from scratch - no AI, no templates, no cut and paste!

This is the foundation of celebrant ceremonies which I strongly keep to!

Many thanks to Andy for the review and to Hayley at Darley Funeral Directors for arranging the service.

Last year, I was truly honoured to be asked by undergraduates at University of York to be the subject of their final year project.

The students were needing to create a film for their degree and chose to make a documentary about funerals.

It was a wonderful experience being interviewed at The Golden Ball pub who kindly let us use the venue. Filming in the wonderfully equipped studios on campus was also a highlight and when the students came to a Tri-Starrs gig to capture my out-of-work antics, we had a fabulous evening!

Meeting up with Siobhan Askew for the students to interview her about the ceremony I conducted for her wonderful Mum, Nicky was beautiful and we thank Hayley at Darley Funeral Directors for the arrangements which can be seen in the film.

A huge thank you is sent to Anna from Mindful Memorials, John Wilson from Bereavement Services at York St John University, Chris from St Leonard's Hospice and Kaz from All About Inclusion for being part of a hefty discussion about modern and alternative funerals that appears in the documentary.

Interviewed also was Hayley Owen Funeral Director who gave a great insight into funeral services and the role of a funeral director.

Thank you once again to all the students and especially to the director Katie Rose Abegglen for asking me to be part of the film they created.

TUESDAY TESTIMONIAL 🌺

What a lovely testimonial to share before the end of the year.

Muzzy’s ceremony was a true example of how wonderful the communities are in the city of York which Muzzy called home and where he enjoyed his career with the Post Office.

We celebrated his life with a few of his own words about his life history blended together with stories of his welcoming, friendly and caring character that loved people - and of course his beloved Tottenham Hotspur!

His local of The Ackhorne was his second home and his connoisseurship of properly pulled real ales was quite famous!

We paid tribute to his famous saying by raising a bottle of a beer he liked that was topped by a beautifully personalised poem for him written by Kirsty, after which, we all raised our thumbs and did his signature gesture and saying of ‘Superb’.

It was humbling that Muzzy’s family requested my services to the funeral director who was the Co-op Funeralcare

Thank you so much to Kath and Terry for these lovely words in this Google Review.

TUESDAY TESTIMONIAL 🌺

Bob was quite a character which was clear from the large amount of people that came to his ceremony.

As a music lover, he went to gigs constantly and supported local musicians and bands.
The music at his ceremony paid tribute to this love of music with songs by Queen and Ozzy Osbourne! All aboard!!

The staff of his local haunt of The Edinburgh Arms knew him very well indeed and had some great banter and times with him.

As a family man too, he was incredibly loving and supportive and his loyalty to Man Utd and the game of darts was truly admirable.

I was honoured to be requested by the family to deliver Bob’s celebration of life that was arranged by Co-op Funeralcare.
Thank you to Carl for this lovely testimonial.

TUESDAY TESTIMONIAL 🌺

Apologies for the break in positing!
I’ve been reviewing the impact of social media on my business recently but honoured to be sharing this lovely Google Review for Janet today.

Janet had a fantastic life that involved lots of travelling. She loved writing poetry too which we celebrated in her ceremony.

The family wisely booked a longer ceremony space so we could fit everything in about Janet’s amazing life!

Thank you to Hayley at Darley Funeral Directors for arranging the service.

Last week was spent decorating and rearranging the house.
I came across many old photos from my youth which brought back many memories.

It’s always beautiful when old photos are shared at funeral and memorial ceremonies.

This one brought back the memory of me being Betty with my friend Lucy as Nancy in our school production of Oliver!

Video tributes are a wonderful way to reminisce and capture memories of the old days as well as the recent ones.
I love creating slideshows for people and Obitus at crematoriums help ensure these memories can be shared.

FRIDAY FEEDBACK 🌺

Mick had lived all his life in the house he’d been born in on the Nun Appleton Estate where he worked all his life too.

Mick was a true family man that was married to his wife for 59 years. ❤️

His service was a lovely intimate one with very close friends and family that had a beautiful poem included that had been written by one of his 3 daughters.

Thank you to Annie and the family for this wonderful feedback and thank you to Hayley Owen Funeral Director for arranging the service.

ROY’S MEMORIAL🌺

Roy’s family wanted his life to be celebrated in a less formal venue and so chose a location that was much more flexible.

This meant that tribute decorations were arranged and most importantly- the bar was open!

As people arrived from the biking community that Roy was a huge part of, the first drink was on him! 🍺

Roy arrived on a motorbike and as he made his entrance, everybody gave him a round of applause as the song ‘Born to be Wild’ was being played. 🏍️

As we didn’t have to worry about time, the ceremony became even more personalised as during the words that I’d written and was saying, we stopped at different points to ask people to shout out their own memories of certain times.

It was beautiful to hear so many tales and to involve those that loved Roy.

After the ceremony, everybody stayed for refreshments and I enjoyed talking to those that knew Roy as they shared even more memories with me about the things Roy got up to with his biker friends.

The dress code for the day meant I got to wear my leather jacket too! 🤘

Helen had requested to be laid to rest by her father’s side in Tadcaster Cemetery.

As we played her favourite music, her family and friends wrote a personal message for Helen to take with her.

As a lady with an eclectic taste is music, we played Stiff Little Fingers, Pink, Lynn Anderson and closed the ceremony with Bruno Mars.

It was beautiful having a personalised ceremony so that Helen’s loved ones could say farewell.

Photos shared with family permission.

AND HE’S A TEENAGER!

13 today!

As a celebrant, I know and appreciate how treasured memories are.
As a Mum, I’m hoping my lad has fond memories of his teenage years like I have.

I was lucky to enjoy every minute of my teenage years and I hope Ernie can do the same.
A very different time and society indeed but will try to ensure he enjoyed his youth as much as possible. ❤️

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERNIE!

It’s always a true honour to be asked to deliver a ceremony for a fellow music lover.

Mick had been in many bands over the years and it was wonderful to hear his brilliant singing voice to open his celebration of life with a song by his band, MainEEaxe.

Mick had even toured as a supporting band for Magnum too and been aired on Radio One with his band, Flight.

As Mick was a huge fan of Def Leppard, it was great hearing the song ‘Animal’ in his ceremony as I love that song too!
Bon Jovi was also played and we closed with a song by the band, The Family Ruin as a tribute to Mick’s late son, Josh who Mick always supported. ❤️

To support young musicians and in memory of Mick’s support of music, it was fitting that donations were to be donated to York Music Hub

Thank you to Hayley at Darley Funeral Directors for arranging the service.
