Food is medicine. I truly believe this — and the more I study healing nutrition alongside my TCM practice, the more i see it everywhere.

This week i’ve been deep in the world of miso soup 🍜 — fermented, mineral-rich, deeply warming to the Spleen and Stomach. a bowl of miso isn’t just comfort; it’s a probiotic powerhouse actively tending to your gut lining.

Then there’s seaweed — that silky, mucilaginous texture coats and soothes the digestive tract, supports thyroid function, and from a TCM lens nourishes Kidney yin and clears heat.

…….and can we talk about vegetable broth? 🫙 those onion skins, carrot tops, celery ends, leek greens you’re about to throw away — don’t. simmer them low and slow and what you get is a deeply mineralising, gut-healing broth that costs almost nothing.

I store mine in glass bottles in the fridge. and on the days i feel tired, flat, depleted — before i reach for coffee or sugar — i pour myself a warm cup of broth or a bowl of miso. it’s one of the simplest acts of nourishment you can give yourself. your Spleen qi will thank you 🌿

I’m sharing what i’m learning as i learn it — because this journey is better together.

🌾✨ Did you know your oats might be working against you?

As an acupuncturist rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine — and someone currently deep-diving into holistic nutrition coaching — I’m constantly having those “wait, nobody told me this” moments. And I have to share them with you as I learn, because this stuff is too good to keep to myself.

Let’s talk about phytic acid 🌀

Phytic acid is a naturally occurring compound found in grains, oats, legumes, nuts and seeds.
It’s actually the plant’s way of storing phosphorus — clever for the plant, but tricky for us. Why? Because phytic acid binds to key minerals like zinc, iron, magnesium and calcium in your gut, blocking your body from absorbing them properly.

In TCM, we’d see this as interference with your body’s ability to build Qi and Blood — the very foundations of your energy and vitality.

The fix is beautifully simple 👇

Soak your grains & oats before eating them!

Here’s what I do:

🫙 Cover your oats or grains in warm, filtered water
🍋 Add a splash of something acidic — apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, or even a spoonful of yoghurt
⏰ Leave them to soak for 12–24 hours at room temperature
🚿 Rinse thoroughly before cooking

That warm, acidic environment activates phytase — an enzyme that breaks down phytic acid — unlocking the minerals your body has been missing this whole time. From a TCM lens, this is how we prepare food to truly nourish the Spleen and Stomach, our digestive powerhouses 🌿

This is me sharing the knowledge as I learn it — student to community.
Ancient cultures soaked, fermented and sprouted everything. We just forgot.
Start tomorrow morning. Soak tonight. Your gut will thank you 🙏🫶

🐴 Happy Lunar New Year! Welcome, Year of the Fire Horse 🔥

The Fire Horse is one of the most powerful combinations in Chinese astrology — bold, passionate, and electric.

In TCM, Fire governs the Heart and Small Intestine meridians, making this a year to lead with courage, connection, and clarity of purpose.

This season, honor the energy of the Fire Horse with these rituals:

🔥 Tend to your Heart qi — joy, laughter, and deep connection are literal medicine this year

🏮 Light candles or gather around warmth — Fire energy loves light and celebration

🧧 Give and receive red envelopes — red is the color of the Fire element, activating vitality and protection

🐴 Move your body — the Horse craves freedom and momentum; walk, dance, stretch your fascia loose

🍲 Eat bitter foods — in TCM, bitter flavor supports the Heart; think dark leafy greens and dark 🍫 chocolate

The Fire Horse doesn’t do small. This is your year to gallop toward what sets your soul on fire. 🌿

Start the year with an acupuncture reset and let’s get your Heart meridian ready ❤️

🌿 Something exciting is brewing…
As a TCM Acupuncturist, I’ve spent the last six years witnessing the body’s incredible ability to heal.

Alongside my acupuncture clinic I’m training to become a Holistic Health & Nutrition Coach, and my mission is simple: food is medicine.

Imagine — you’re not feeling your best, and instead of reaching for a quick fix, you head to your kitchen. You prepare a warming bowl of soup, add in carefully chosen herbs, and support your body’s natural ability to heal. That’s the vision. That’s the goal. 🍲✨

Over the next year, I’ll be sharing:

🌱 Recipes rooted in healing
🔥 The energetics of food through a TCM lens (yes — your food has Qi too!)
🌸 How to weave TCM herbs and Ayurvedic practices into your everyday meals
🧡 Simple, accessible ways to nourish from the inside out!

This space is about to get deliciously medicinal. Keep watching — this is just the beginning. 🫚🍵

As we say in TCM — 藥食同源 (yào shí tóng yuán) — medicine and food share the same roots.

🔥 Can you supplement your way out of a bad diet?

Sound familiar?

You’re exhausted. Wired but tired. Running on coffee, cortisol and a handful of supplements you read about at 11pm. You add magnesium. Then B12. Then ashwagandha. And still — nothing really shifts.

In clinic I see this constantly. People doing everything right on paper — supplement routine nailed, but day to day? Rushed meals, skipped food, processed snacks. The diet is an afterthought and the supplements have become the plan.

In my opinion!
No supplement can do what real food does.

Food is a matrix of thousands of nutrients, enzymes and co-factors working together.
In TCM, burnout signals Kidney Qi depletion — your deepest reserves running low. Those are rebuilt through nourishment and consistency. Not a capsule.💊

Now don’t get me wrong as I do believe that supplements do have a place — but only with the right guidance( and I cant stress this enough) . The right dose, the right product, for the right person. That’s where working with a qualified nutritionist or holistic practitioner makes all the difference.

Balance your plate. Not your supplement shelf.

✨ Coming soon — how to use everyday foods as medicine, rooted in TCM wisdom and modern nutrition.☺️🙏🏻

Prioritising yourself isn’t selfish—it’s essential. 🌿

Self-care looks different every day: nourishing meals that fuel your body, quiet walks that ground your spirit, acupuncture sessions that restore balance, and giving yourself permission to simply be without guilt.

Your wellness is worth the investment. Your body is worth honoring. You are worth the time.

What does self-care look like for you today?

Full circle moment 🌿✨

Remember when I named my practice “Nourish From Within”?
Turns out that name has been quietly guiding me all along.

I’m so excited to share that I’m training to become a holistic health and nutrition coach alongside my acupuncture practice - deepening into what’s always felt most true to me. 💚

Here’s the truth: In clinic, I see it far too often.
Beautiful people coming in with symptoms that could be transformed by what they eat - chronic inflammation, digestive issues, fatigue, hormonal imbalances.
The needles help, but when the foundation of nutrition isn’t there, we’re only treating part of the picture. 🩺

Food is medicine. 🥘✨

And I’m diving deep into how we can weave Chinese herbs and Ayurvedic practices into our daily lives - not as something separate or complicated, but as a natural extension of how we care for ourselves.

Holistic health coaching is about looking at the whole person - not just symptoms, but sleep, stress, movement, relationships, and yes, what’s on your plate. 🌙🧘‍♀️🍃
And honestly? TCM and acupuncture have been rooted in this tradition for thousands of years.
It’s about sustainable shifts that actually work with your life, not against it.
Because real healing isn’t about perfection, it’s about progress and finding what truly nourishes you. 💫

The needle work opens pathways. ✨
The food we choose sustains them. 🌱

Together, they create true healing from the inside out. 🙏

If this resonates with you, I’d love to have you follow along as I share what I’m learning - recipes, herbal wisdom, simple practices that actually fit into real life, and how Eastern medicine can transform the way you think about eating. 🍵🌿

Here’s to nourishing from within, in every sense 🤍

Homemade Miso Soup - the perfect cup in 10 Minutes 🍵

Made my own dashi from scratch with kombu and bonito flakes( which is super easy btw) , then added tofu and seaweed. Simple, nourishing, and so satisfying.

TCM Benefits:
This warming cup is a digestive powerhouse—strengthens your immune system, expels cold, and boosts energy.
Perfect for weak digestion, fatigue, or when you feel a cold coming on.
The fermented miso brings gut-loving probiotics while the nutrients help calm the mind and nourish blood.

🎄 TCM Holiday Tip: Nourish Your Kidney Energy

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, winter is the season of the Kidneys – our body’s deep reserves of energy and vitality. During the busy holiday season, support your Kidney Qi by:

🫖 **Drinking warm beverages** – Try ginger tea or bone broth to build internal warmth
🛌 **Getting extra rest** – Winter is nature’s time for restoration
🥜 **Eating warming foods** – Black beans, walnuts, and root vegetables tonify Kidney energy
🧘 **Staying grounded** – Gentle movement and early nights help conserve your essence

Remember: A Christmas break is about restoration, not depletion. Listen to your body’s wisdom.

Wishing you all a peaceful, and healthy Christmas.See you in the new year ❤️
