⭐️TRASH ADVICE⭐️
“My GP told me that if I have back pain, I should never run.”
Sorry guys, but this one can also get in the bin. 🗑️
Here’s the truth:
▫️Running can actually reduce pain and improve function in people with back pain (BJSM ASTEROID trial, 2025).
▫️Movement boosts blood flow, strengthens spinal and core muscles, and supports recovery.
▫️Avoiding activity completely often makes stiffness and pain worse.
▫️A gradual run-walk approach is safe, effective, and well-tolerated.
▫️No serious adverse events were reported, only minor, expected ni**les.
What really matters is how you return to running:
✨Start gradually, listen to your body, and pace yourself.✨
Include strength and mobility training alongside running.
Adapt distance and pace as your back settles.
Every case is different, which is why blanket advice like “never run” is unhelpful. The goal is to keep you moving, not to wrap you in cotton wool.
