Wonderful first day back in clinic after an extremely relaxing holiday. It never seems like I have come back to work as when you love something it ceases to feel like work. This got me thinking of why I fell in love with acupuncture. It is quite simple really, you are treated as an individual there is not one standard treatment for a condition . We begin with a lot of questions about you! And no it’s not a 10 minute chat and you can only talk about one thing. We want to know everything as everything is connected in Chinese medicine, we then look at your tongue and take your pulse. All this whilst observing you, the way you talk, the colour in your face, the shape of your body, your posture and even how fast or slow you walk! How amazing is all that!

I always get asked how did you get into Acupuncture? Well I always say I believe Acupuncture found me, I was certainly not looking for it. It was just a random day that I called into a shop to buy some more products for my reflexology business and got talking to a wonderful acupuncturist who had just graduated from the Northern College of Acupuncture. I will be honest up until that point I really did not know much about this ancient medicine but what he told me intrigued me so much that I booked in for a treatment, he blew me away and everything he told me about Chinese medicine seemed to make complete sense. It was if I already knew it. Before I knew it I was booked onto an introductory event at the NCA and then applying and starting my degree in acupuncture. The universe that day certainly guided me onto this wonderful path which totally changed and transformed my life for the better.

In a recent consumer poll released as part of the launch of Acupuncture Awareness week showed only 20% of the survey respondents correctly understood that it takes 3 years to fully train as a BAcC acupuncturist. This means we must as a minimum complete 3,600 hours of training and at least 400 hours in person clinical training.
