Finally to bed 😴😴 after a fantastic evening of event massage at the finish of the Hardmoors 55. Great atmosphere in the finish in Helmsley, congratulations to all runners - beautiful weather and good underfoot conditions saw some super fast finish times 🏆

Happy Monday everyone, hope the weekend was kind. I spent Saturday on checkpoint duties in Kettlewell for Nav4’s fab LAW75 race (and not, as it appears from this photo, shooting a new episode of Dinner Ladies). Congratulations to all runners for taking on 75 of Yorkshire’s finest boggy and rainy miles, whether you finished or not.

And by all accounts it did 😅

Great fun yesterday on event massage at the Hardmoors Saltburn trail marathon, half, and 10k races. Busy with backs rather than legs - that mud seemed to throw a few out 😬

Hope everyone is recovering well today!

Spring marathon runners - Are. You. Doing. Your. Strength. Training. I think I’m about 8 weeks away from the frantic “I’m injured” bookings, and it’s usually some variety of knee pain.

“But I do loads of squats!” (Spoiler alert - usually with poor form).

Also squats are not essential to get you through your spring marathon, if you’re just thinking about incorporating some strength work now, I would advise learning to squat properly as a separate enterprise - it can take an age to nail this progressively, and you may need to work extensively on your ankle mobility to achieve this. There are lots of other hugely beneficial strength exercises around to focus on between now and April/May.

Disclaimer - this isn’t a marketing post. I’m not a strength and conditioning specialist, I can look at your range of movement and your form and give general guidance only (I can recommend some great PTs if you really want to develop your strength). I would just love to see everyone get to their start lines pain free!

A sports massage to help recover from carrying your Christmas tree, you say? I’ve heard it all now.

Monday 15th December is my last working week of the year and it’s pretty full up already, if you would like a pre Christmas iron out please book ahead for that week ASAP. I also have a little availability this Tuesday/Wednesday, and Monday 8th/Tuesday 9th - please message to book.

I will have Heart Christmas on the radio so do let me know if you’re playing Whamagheddon and I’ll change stations. Or even if you’re just all Christmassed out already!

Therapy Expo!!!

Excellent lectures from industry leaders, many shopping opportunities (I was very good 😇), and lots of fantastic likeminded colleagues. Great trip away with my friend and mentor Clare Davison.

What a busy, busy November - and it’s not over yet! The weather has been full of surprises, I’ve gone from running in warm sunshine, to working on clients grateful for my electric blanket in the blink of an eye. My work diary has been full, I’ve been away with my family, and had lots of great nights out with friends.

However, I am so disappointed to be too full of cold this weekend for the Ranger Ultras Peak District South & North races, one of my favourite weekends of the year. I’m glad I have Twinkle to keep me warm ❤️ and at least the bug has struck early enough to recover in time for Therapy Expo next week at the Birmingham NEC.

Wishing all of my clients and running friends lots of luck this weekend in the Peak District, and also the Yorkshire Wolds (Hardmoors 80), and the shorter, sharper Tadcaster Ten - keep warm and stay safe! 🏃‍♀️ 🏃

Thought I’d share this as I have a few friends, and clients, with grumbling Achilles at the moment 😬

After a relaxed August, September has come along on turbo charge! Busy busy now the holiday season is over, and it’s been great to welcome a few new clients to my massage couch too.

Huge congratulations to my client Ant Cocker on taking both third male AND first male vet 50 at the Hardmoors 60 yesterday, it’s been fantastic working with Ant since meeting him at last year’s race, and I’m so chuffed to see his hard work over the year massively pay off. It was also a treat to get my hands on winner Stephen Kirk’s pins too!

After working on these speedsters however, the oils went away as it really needed to be all hands on deck to look after the soaking, freezing and starving runners - the conditions on those cliff tops were truly hideous. I think we set a new world record for number of cups of tea made in one night! Highest DNF rate in HM60 history.

As I didn’t crawl into bed til 4:30 this morning, I’m treating myself to a slow Sunday…..😴😴😴

Congratulations to all runners whether you finished or not, not just the HM60 but the Ranger Ultras Yorkshire Three Peaks Ultra, the Pilgrim’s Ultras Race Across Wales, and the Peak Challenge Gold Ultra - to name just a few!
