ABOUT ACUPUNCTURE
Some people come for treatment of a specific issue or symptom, whereas others come to improve general wellbeing. Traditionally, Acupuncture addresses imbalances within the body by stimulating specific points on channels of energy called meridians. There is also ongoing research that is collecting evidence on how acupuncture affects hormones in the body and brain activity. ABOUT REMEDIAL MASSAGE
Remedial Massage uses specialised deep tissue massage techniques, movements and mobilisations that are designed to help the body recover from musculo-skeletal injuries and conditions amongst other things. It does this by increasing blood and lymph supply to an injured area, breaking down fibrous adhesions and reducing stress and tension. Below are details of working hours and clinic information. Learn about how dermatomes and myotomes and how they relate to the acupuncture channels at
https://www.benelliot.co.uk/post/myotomes-dermatomes-acupuncture-channels

The Bio-Medical terms myotomes and dermatomes provide links, though not always direct parallels, to the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) channel system. In this post, I will investigate these links and explore where they are most usefully used in acupuncture practice.

The details of myotomes, dermatomes and acupuncture channels create an interesting map of our body and how it functions. Although the theories have been developed centuries apart, the parallels are striking in places. Being able to borrow aspects of one ideology from another means as acupuncturists, we can have the best of all worlds and an array of tools and models to use with our patients.

In November 2013, I wrote a 'how-to' article for The Acupuncturist magazine on the topic of shin splints. Twelve years on, with more knowledge and experience, I feel it's a good time to give an updated account of shin splints, what other lower leg pain issues can be treated with acupuncture & massage - plus treatment protocols for anyone interested in how I treat these issues.

What Are Shin Splints?
Shin splints is a common term for anterior or medial tibial stress syndrome (ATSS/MTSS). It's a condition that causes pain around the shinbone (tibia). It's often caused by the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, and bone tissue becoming inflamed due to overuse or repetitive stress.
