For many, it is a night of celebration, colour and tradition. But it can also be a difficult evening for some of the older people in our community, especially those who live alone, have dementia, or feel anxious around loud noises.

As we look forward to the week ahead & the weekend, let us remember to be mindful and kind.

• Check in on neighbours who may find this time overwhelming
• Let people nearby know if you are planning fireworks
• Keep pets safe and inside
• Choose quieter fireworks where possible
• Be aware of the time and finish events at a reasonable hour

Sometimes the simplest gesture, a knock on the door, a friendly chat or an offer to help close curtains or settle in before the evening can make all the difference.
