Ekham, inhale, stretch the arms up.
This is how every Ashtanga practice begins. The first breath, the first movement.
This moment has felt exciting, joyful, energising, but also at times a struggle, frustrating, or even boring. What I've kept doing is showing up and observing my mental chatter without letting it take over. By surrendering my thoughts and feelings I get out of my own way. This has given me the opportunity to see who I am and, more importantly, who I can become.
Chatting after class on Friday one of my Ashtanga Foundations students .tribe.studios asked whether I went on autopilot during my own practice, following the same sequence. I tried to explain the feeling of freedom that comes from consistency and commitment. Hopefully this post will expand a little further.
The main takeaway is that I never regret beginning. Ekham, inhale, stretch the arms up.
Hope you like the Yorkshire version of a fancy beach pose...the Humber Bridge looking spectacular in the sunshine.
