🏃🏃🏼‍♀️ Cross-country medal haul for Harriers

As reported over the last few months, many Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers have been dedicated cross-country runners, turning out to take on the muddy conditions and embracing rain, wind, ice and occasionally sunshine along the way.

The list of medal winners for the season is now available and the Harriers have taken a big haul with Head Coach, Rob Burn, speculating that it may be the biggest medals tally for Harriers yet (not verified!).

The season includes six races overall, with the best five results from each runner counting. Charlotte Sanderson, who has led the Harriers pack from the front all season, secured a gold medal in the W45 age category, alongside Trudy Morrice, Christine Burn and Margaret Wikeley who won their own age categories. Vanessa Arthur and Carol Thompson will be taking home bronze medals in their age Categories. On the men’s side, it was a trio of golds in their age categories for Rob Burn, Geoff Bullock and Alan Wikeley.

In the final cross-country of the season that he could track down, Rob Burn ran at Roundhay Park in Leeds on 15 February….

👀 The Problem at Dalton

I was invited to attend a meeting of concerned residents in the village of Dalton. I have been to this sort of meeting before, so I was thinking that it might be a little bit shoutie as exasperation surfaced.

But this is Dalton, where they do things very calmly and sensibly. I joined a circle, always a good shape for a meeting, facilitated by resident Iestyn Hughes.

The problem starts with the grant of planning permission for ten new houses in the village, but it was not the houses that caused the trouble.

Digging a deep drain requires that the road there is closed to traffic for ten weeks. It is one of three roads into and out of the village, so that leaves two other roads, doesn’t it? Well, no.

One of those roads comes in under a railway bridge, with the east coast main line roaring over. In a dreadful piece of engineering the roadway at this old bridge drops down to allow clearance for lorries, and it often floods, closing that road too…

🎬 Ritz Cinema Adventure Film Festival

**Sunday evenings on the 8th, 15th & 22nd of March**

Once again Thirsk’s entirely volunteer-run Ritz cinema is partnering with the London Mountain Film Festival (LMFF). Bringing stunning and thought provoking films onto our big screen for adventurers and armchair enthusiasts alike.

Over three consecutive Sunday nights in March you can join us for a curation of some of the very best shorts and features showcasing outdoor adventure.

This year rather than having specific themes each week we include content on ‘climbing’, ‘snow sports’, ‘biking’ and the like in each showreel.

This means if you can’t make one week you won’t miss out - each of the weeks will cover similar activities, but most importantly each week the films are totally different.

Come to all three and you really will have seen some of the best shorts and films on an adventure theme that you could wish for…

⚽️ Thirsk Falcons Match Report from Facebook

**U9 Clarets v Catterick Garrison Yellows**

A really positive afternoon for our U9 Clarets, showing clear signs of player development, teamwork, and growing confidence in a reversed fixture played at home due to a waterlogged pitch.

The boys demonstrated excellent progress in their team shape and were far more selfless with their movement off the ball, constantly looking to support teammates and create space. Most pleasing was the way players encouraged and backed each other throughout, which helped the group play with belief and real confidence.

Credit to Catterick Garrison Yellows, who have clearly developed since our earlier meeting this season. They were well organized, worked hard, and made us stay patient, a great challenge that helped our players learn how to manage different game situations…
