Today is International Women’s Day 💜

This year’s theme, Give to Gain, is a call to action: when women and girls are supported with the right information, services, and opportunities, communities thrive.

In s*xual health, that means making sure women have access to clear information, respectful care, and are empowered with the confidence to make decisions about their own bodies and relationships.

If you live in York or North Yorkshire, visit yors*xualhealth.org.uk/people/womens-health for more information on our local services for women including:

04/03/2026

The HPV vaccine reduces your chances of getting human papillomavirus (HPV), a common virus that's spread through skin contact (usually when having s*x). It is now routinely given to all children aged 12/13 years as part of their vaccination schedule, but some adults are also eligible for the vaccination from s*xual health clinics.

Most types of HPV are harmless, but some types are linked to an increased risk of certain types of cancer, including:
🫧 cervical cancer
🫧 mouth cancer
🫧 a**l cancer
🫧 pe**le cancer
🫧 vulval cancer
🫧 vaginal cancer

We offer the HPV vaccination to men, bis*xual men, and other men who have s*x with men (GBMSM) up to and including the age of 45, and transgender women.

If you’d like to learn more about our vaccinations, visit yors*xualhealth.org.uk/wellbeing/vaccinations/

It's Time to Talk Day 🗣️

If you're struggling with an issue related to your s*xual health, such as a diagnosis; an unplanned pregnancy; self-confidence; or s*xual assault, you can self refer to our specialist counselling service via yors*xualhealth.org.uk/wellbeing/s*xual-health-counselling/

If you're hesitant, here are some words from previous service users:

⭐️ I had a really positive experience and found the counselling to be hugely beneficial in helping me move forward with life after experiencing something traumatic. I was referred and given an appointment very quickly, this was also amazing as it meant I had support very quickly. I’d recommend this service and I feel it’s vital for people who need to access counselling and therapy but who ordinarily might struggle to access such services.

⭐️ I instantly felt comfortable and at ease, after 6 weeks of weekly sessions I walked out of there a better version of myself, feeling lighter and more confident.

Just leaving this here if you need it 🩵 Today is , get involved and share this post to remind others that it's okay to reach out for help 💭

Knowing what's normal for you can help you spot the signs of cervical cancer. If something feels off, speak to your GP.

You can help protect yourself against cervical cancer by attending your screening, sometimes called a smear test, when you're invited. This is now every 5 years between the ages of 25 and 64. You'll receive your first invite around 6 months before your 25th birthday.

We know making time to book and attend the appointment can sometimes be hard, and it's not the nicest appointment to attend, but alongside your GP, we're here to provide options to make it as easy as possible. Our specialist team do hundreds of screenings and are pros at making you feel comfortable, calm, and safe.

The contraceptive implant is a small plastic rod that sits underneath the skin at the top of your arm. It lasts for 3 years, and is safe to use whilst breastfeeding.

We're putting on some extra dedicated clinics for the implant next week. If you've been waiting a while for an appointment, or want to take this opportunity to start or switch your contraception, call us on 01904 721111 to book in.

If you can't make these clinics, our team will be happy to find you an alternative time and day.
