In partnership with Humber Health, we're bringing the Hepatitis C testing bus to our Northway clinic in Scarborough.

It'll be there from 3pm until 6pm tomorrow, Wednesday 23rd July 2025.

Hepatitis C is a virus that can infect the liver. If left untreated, it can sometimes cause serious and potentially life-threatening damage to the liver over many years.

You can get Hepatitis C:
🦠 through unprotected s*x where blood was drawn by both parties
🦠 by having an unlicensed tattoo or piercing
🦠 from a needle stick injury, or through sharing needles
🦠 by having medical or dental treatment abroad
🦠 by sharing razors or toothbrushes that may have blood on

If you're concerned and would like to get tested, come down and see us. We'll give you a £5 voucher to say thank you!

Our next walk in cervical screening clinic in Selby is on 📅 Thursday 17th July 2025. We'll be at 📍 Selby War Memorial Hospital between 4pm and 7pm.

There's been a lot of talk about cervical screening in the news lately, and you might be wondering what to do. Here's the lowdown 👇🏼

💫 Previously, people aged 25 to 49 years old were invited for screening (smear test) every 3 years, unless they had an abnormal result. Those aged 50 to 64 were invited every 5 years.

💫 From 1st July 2025, it is now every 5 years for those at low risk of cervical cancer. You'll still be recalled earlier if you are at higher risk.

💫 If you have received your reminder letter already, it's really important that you attend your screening. Don't delay it because of this news.

💫 Invitations will now be sent via the NHS app. Make sure you download it, as you'll also be able to view your result there too.

Cervical screening is quick and straightforward, and our team are experts at making it the most comfortable experience possible. If you're overdue and have been putting it off for a while, come and see us. Just bring your NHS number and we'll do the rest!

If you'd prefer to have a booked appointment, you can call our central bookings team on 01904 721111 during the week. We have clinics across the region including Selby, Sherburn, and York, so we'll be able to offer you an appointment that suits.

Our next walk in cervical screening clinic is at 📍 The Friarage Hospital, Northallerton. We'll be there from 10am - 3pm on Saturday 21st June 2025.

If you're overdue your screening, take this as your sign to come along! You'll need to have received your reminder, which you'll currently get every 3 years between aged 25 and 49, and every 5 years between 50 and 64.

Cervical screening (smear test) is:
✅ Quick – the actual screening is really fast, so you'll be in and out in no time.
✅ Life saving - screening is the best way to protect yourself against cervical cancer.
✅ Easy – just walk in with your NHS number, no appointment needed.

Cervical screening shouldn't be:
❌ Painful - it may be a bit uncomfortable, but there's adjustments that can be made to ensure it's a positive experience.
❌ Embarrassing - our team are highly experienced, and have done hundreds of screenings. We don't care what you look like, if you missed your last wax, or if your tan is patchy. We'll just be pleased to see you.

If you can't make this walk in clinic, follow us for information on the next one, or if you'd prefer to attend on a set date and time, call us on 01904 721111 to book an appointment.

💉Weight Loss Injections and Contraception 💉

The MHRA have issued a reminder to women who are using weight loss injections that they must use effective contraception while taking these medicines and, in some cases, for up to two months between stopping the medicine and trying to get pregnant.

These medicines must not be taken during pregnancy, while trying to get pregnant, or during breastfeeding. Anyone who gets pregnant while using them should speak to their healthcare professional and stop the medicine as soon as possible. This is because there is not enough safety data to know whether taking the medicine could cause harm to the baby.

Your local pharmacy, GP, and s*xual health clinic can advise you on contraception, and help you start or switch to your preferred method. If you live in York or North Yorkshire and would like to attend YorSexual Health, visit our website www.yors*xualhealth.org.uk for latest clinic times across the region.

It's Men's Health Week.

Taking care of your s*xual health is a vital part of taking care of your overall health. Removing the embarrassment and stigma is what we do best!

Pass this on if you think someone else might need a reminder to check in ⬇️

🔷 You should have an STI test before and after a new partner, every 3 months if you're regularly changing partners, and at least annually if you're a man who has s*x with other men. Some STIs have no symptoms but can cause long term health concerns. Testing is non-invasive and quick - we have walk in clinics and bookable appointments, check out the website for more information.

🔷 Taking PrEP helps stop the HIV virus replicating in your body, protecting you if you're at risk. Your future self will thank you for being proactive about it!

🔷 If you've been ignoring some uncomfortable symptoms, take this as your sign to book an appointment to get checked out 👀🍆 Our friendly and experienced team are here to help - no judgement!

There are increasing numbers of Syphilis infections in Yorkshire. Here's what you need to know:

🔵 Syphilis is a s*xually transmitted infection that can cause life threatening problems if not treated, including heart, brain, and nerve issues.

🔵 Syphilis often does not cause any symptoms, but can still cause harm if not treated. Symptoms can include an ulcer (usually on the p***s, v***a, bottom, mouth) or more general symptoms such as a rash, raised lymph nodes, hair loss, feeling unwell.

🔵 Syphilis is very treatable with antibiotics.

🔵 It can take three months for a blood test to reliably detect whether there is a new syphilis infection, but it is important to contact the s*xual health clinic before then if you think you may have symptoms of syphilis

You are at higher risk of Syphilis and other STIs if you:

🔵 Have condomless s*x with a new partner

🔵 Are a s*x worker, or pay for s*x

🔵 Share needles

You can get tested for Syphilis at your GP and local s*xual health clinic. The best ways to protect yourself against Syphilis and other STIs are:

✅ Use a condom or dental dam

✅ Test regularly for STIs - before and after a new partner, every 3 months if you are regularly changing partners, and at least annually for women under 25 and for men who have s*x with other men

❌ Don't share needles

❌ Don't share s*x toys

We're holding our next walk in cervical screening (smear) clinic at our 📍Monkgate clinic on Monday 9th June 2025 between 4pm and 7pm. If you're due or overdue your screening, we'd love to see you there!

🌷 The screening itself takes just seconds and could save your life.

🌷 Our highly experienced nurses carry out daily screenings and are trained to ensure you are comfortable and supported. There are lots of adjustments we can make, such as a smaller speculum. The screening shouldn't be painful but if it is, or you find it difficult for any reason, we can help.

🌷 Cervical screening involves a small, flexible brush collecting some cells from your cervix. These are tested for HPV. If your result is negative, you'll be recalled in 3-5 years. If it's positive, your cells will be tested further. If they are normal, you'll be invited back in 1 year. If they are abnormal, you'll be invited for further screening.
All you need on the day is your NHS number. It's a good idea not to be screened during or just before your period, so double check your dates before you come.

Our 📍Monkgate clinic is easy to find - visit our page for a walk through if you're unsure. There's ample parking and direct access from Monkbar Car Park just behind us, and we're easily accessible on foot from the city centre.

If you'd prefer to book an appointment, we offer bookable clinics across the region throughout the week. Simply call our central bookings team on 01904 721111 and they'll be pleased to help you make an appointment that suits you best.
