The WHY?
Why did I train to become a Reflexologist?
When I was still living in Hamburg (which feels like about 100 years ago!), a friend gave me a Reflexology treatment that left me speechless. I felt so calm yet energised at the same time. What really amazed me was when she mentioned my right knee and that it was imbalanced, something I hadn’t told her about at all.
Intrigued by this “weird” complementary therapy, I signed up for an evening course at the local college, just to treat friends and family.
Later, when I moved to London and then York, I worked in various roles; for a Housing Association, the German Goethe Institute, the Tourist Information, and even as a Tour Guide. But after my daughter was born, I didn’t want to go back to an office job. I needed flexibility, especially without family nearby to help with childcare.
That’s when I decided to study Anatomy and Physiology at York College, followed by a full Reflexology qualification. My training took about 18 months, with assessments and assignments along the way. So if you ever come across someone who says they trained in a weekend… nope, that’s not how it works!
So, my “why” is more than just one reason.
Reflexology is a versatile and deeply beneficial complementary therapy that still fascinates me, even after 20 years of practice. I love supporting my clients; it makes me so happy to see them relax, unwind, and find calm through Reflexology.
I don’t see Reflexology as an “alternative therapy,” but as a complementary one. I don’t replace a GP and I don’t diagnose, but I can support your general wellbeing and offer a safe, nurturing space.
Reflexology also gave me the flexibility I needed when my daughter was young, and now, I can’t imagine not being self-employed.
But over to you; have you ever tried Reflexology? Is there anything you would like to know about this ancient practice (which actually has its roots in Egypt)? I’d love to hear from you. x
