Emotions can be confusing and disturbing, but if we understand them instead of fighting them, we can recognise and meet the needs that drive them. In my latest blog post, I look at ways we can understand the needs underneath our emotions and how we can meet those needs, instead of trying to resist or repress our difficult emotions. I've written a post responding to the recent Presidential Election in the USA. You can read it at the link below, but to summarise: I believe that the negative rhetoric used by Donald Trump during his campaigns has had a negative effect on the mental health of the vulnerable populations he's attacked, and I believe this negative effect is only likely to increase now that he's been re-elected to the Presidency. It is my commitment, as a mental health provider with an emphasis on social justice, to uplift and support the vulnerable communities Trump has attempted to tear down during his campaigns. No matter who is in power, my practice will be a place of shelter and safety for immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community including trans and nonbinary people, the disabled community, and anyone else affected by the negative statements of Trump and his followers. You are seen, you are valued, you are valid, and you matter. Help is available, and you are not alone.
