Online treatment programs - these are very popular for those who want to get started straight away - no waiting for an appointment and those who don’t live locally. They are also cheaper than coming into clinic. From arthritic knees, back pain, Achilles and much more. Take a look at a program for you.

I’ve joined the same gym as my 17-year-old…

And I’ve definitely raised the average age.

She’s been going for 6 months.

Watching her get stronger quietly inspired me.

So I joined.

And yes… it’s a very young crowd 😄

But here’s the thing:

At this stage of life, strength training isn’t about aesthetics.

It’s about:
• Keeping your muscles strong
• Supporting your joints
• Protecting your future health
• Feeling capable in your body

4 weeks in and I’m noticing:

• Stairs are so much less effort
• Long clinic days feel easier
• I feel physically more capable

I'm amazed how much stronger I feel already.

Nothing extreme.

Just consistent, progressive work.

Quietly building strength for the long run.

I finally started a proper strength training routine…

And it had been on my “I should really do that” list for nearly 2 years.

Which is slightly ironic, because:

I’m a physio.
I’m active.
I talk about exercise every day.

I knew exactly how important strength training is, especially in your late 40s.

And still… I didn’t start.

Why?

The same reasons I hear from people all the time:
“I don’t have time”
“I’ll start next week”
“I’m already quite active”

Sound familiar?

The truth is - life doesn’t suddenly calm down.

And if we don’t prioritise our health, it quietly slips down the list.

Three weeks in now…

And I already feel the difference.

Not dramatic.
But meaningful.

Stronger.
More energy.
Long days feel easier.

Sometimes it’s not about knowing more.

It’s about finally starting.

I’m really excited to introduce a new service in clinic:

Strong For Life

This assessment looks at some of the key markers linked to long-term health and independence including strength, balance, mobility and muscle health.

For some people this will provide reassurance that they’re doing many of the right things. For others it gives a clear starting point to improve strength and resilience over time.

The aim is simple: helping you stay strong, active and able to do the things you love for years to come.

You can read more about it here:

Let’s make the next few decades our strongest yet.

Take care, Helen

A big shout out to all the fabulous, strong, independent women in my life.

If I’m honest, for a long time I always felt a bit more comfortable around men. I think it’s because I’ve never really been very good at being a stereotypical woman. I’m more rucksack, trainers and mud than handbags, heels and makeup.

For years I felt uncomfortable assuming other women were judging me for my poor fashion sense and inability to apply eye liner.

But over the last couple of years something has changed. I’ve started collecting the most badass women as friends, and it turns out the problem wasn’t women… it was just my own insecurity.

Now, for the first time in my life, I’m surrounded by strong, supportive, hilarious women who let me be exactly who I am.

You know who you are. I love you all. Thank you for inspiring me, pushing me, and proving that girls really are the best.

Shame it only took me this long to realise

Mindset: Put Another Layer On

What stood out most in Iceland wasn’t the weather.

It was the calm response to it.

No drama about the cold.
Just: “Put another layer on.”

Rehab needs that energy.

Instead of:
“Why is this taking so long?”
“This shouldn’t hurt.”
“I’ll never get back.”

Try:
“This is part of the process.”
“My body is adapting.”
“I’ll adjust and keep going.”

Rehab rarely needs extremes.

It needs consistency.
Patience.
The basics done well.

Layer up. Keep going.

Light: Progress You Don’t Always See

The Northern Lights don’t appear on demand.

You wait.
You stand in the cold.
You look up.

And suddenly - there they are.

Rehab is often like that.

Day to day, progress can feel invisible.

But zoom out and you’ll notice:
• A little less pain
• A little more strength
• More confidence
• Better tolerance

The light was coming.
It just needed time.

🌌 What small win have you overlooked recently?

Ice: Recovery Is Not Being Lazy

You can’t snowmobile all day without rest.

And you can’t sit in a hot pool forever either.

Recovery isn’t weakness.
It’s what allows adaptation to happen.

Recovery looks like:
• Sleep
• Rest days
• Lower stress
• Good nutrition
• Gentle movement

If you’re always pushing…
your body never gets the chance to rebuild.

Growth happens when fire and ice work together.

❄️ Where could you add a little more recovery this week?
