My Coaching Journey

My name is Elloisa Cooper and I can finally say that I am proud and happy to be the person that I am today. This self-acceptance has developed over time and from a commitment to changing the path that I was once on. Like many others, I have had my fair share of turbulent and sometimes traumatic experiences that affected my mental health for many years. PTSD, depression and unhealthy eating habits were common features of my teens and twenties. I often experienced self-hatred and a lack of self-worth, which negatively impacted on my thoughts and belief system.

In 2011, just as I hit my thirties and after a few years of discovering the world of self-development books and techniques, I started to believe that I could change the direction of my life. It was then that I applied for a place at university, to follow my younger self’s desire to becoming a primary school teacher. With my on-going lack of self-belief that I would never amount to anything, this was a particularly big decision for me to make! Nevertheless, 5 years later after dedication, determination not to give up and a lot of hard work, I came away from university with a first class BA (honors) Degree in Education Studies and my primary Post Graduate Certificate in Education. I was absolutely delighted and for the first time in my life felt extremely deserving and proud of myself.

In 2017, in order to build my confidence up further in teaching, I made the decision to go down the supply route. I loved the new path that I was finally on. However, in February 2017, I received the most devastating and heart breaking call of my life, as I learnt that my dad in South Africa had sadly ended his life. My world as I knew it, began to spiral into darkness as I tried to understand, accept, face and fight the incredibly complicated grief process consuming my life. As time went by, I began to draw upon all the self-help tools that I had gained over recent years. Despite the pain, a few months later I woke up with a burning desire and determination to live my life again. I started with practicing gratitude for all of the things and people that I have in my life now. I then began my yoga routines again, walking our beautiful dog Jax and also took up running. Throughout the whole of my healing journey, I have found writing to be the most helpful tool of all, as it allows me to release the chaotic thoughts and feelings that can often be triggered at any moment and without warning. Yoga is also a wonderful way to regain focus and certainly got me grounded again very quickly. I also picked up many inspiring books to help get my self back in a positive state of mind. I am now a student of A Course in Miracles and totally dedicated to living my life in a place of love, light, hope, belief, forgiveness and positivity.
