JS Equine Therapies

JS Equine Therapies Qualified Equine Sports Massage Therapist Sports Massage Therapy is a great way to loosen up tight muscles, relax spasms and relieve tension.

I qualified as an Equine Sports Massage Therapist through TCAP (The Colleague of Animal Physiotherapy) in September 2022 and am currently enrolled on their Diploma for Animal Physiotherapy. Other benefits include improved circulation, greater range of motion and enhanced muscle tone. Horses of all shapes and sizes will benefit from Sports Massage Therapy whether they are in full swing of the competition season or just a happy hacker.

Last night I joined a webinar hosted by Cavalor with the subject of “Keeping Your Horse Sound”
Speakers were Gillian Higgins from Horses Inside Out and Dr Caroline Loos who is a Nutritional specialist and head of research for Cavalor

Really interesting and informative on how to support your horse to prevent injury and weakness with using the right balance of bodily exercises and what you feed them
These webinars are a great opportunity to ask questions 👍🏻
Thank you guys

This handsome boy is Herbie, his owner noticed a change in his behaviour when being tacked up so asked me to come and see if I could find what’s made him a little grumpy and help him feel better.
He was happy tucking into his hay during the treatment and at times stepped away from it to really concentrate on what I was doing. He was very responsive and easy to read and get feedback from.
We found a few things going on and worked through them during the treatment with the help of the Optimus Lumina Red Light Phototherapy.
You can see on the last photo his sleepy eye, this is one of the many signs that horses give to show a release from tension.

Yesterday I treated the wonderful Fergus, a regular client of mine.
In this Timelapse I am using my hands to assess where his areas of tension are and if he has any trigger points that need releasing.
Following on from this I use my Optimus Lumina Red Light Phototherapy device on the areas I’m going to work on, this helps prepare the area for massage.
At the end of the treatment I re stretch all of his legs to reassess his Range of Movement.
Fergus is used to having his treatments now and is a superstar that doesn’t need a haynet or tying up at all, this really helps me as he is free to express himself more so I can read his body language more efficiently.

This week I’ve been studying inflammation and how as a Sport Massage Therapist I can help our animals.
It reminded me of when I used to work at Sky Equine Rehab yard and Barney who was a very special horse that I got to work with.
Barney tore his Gracilis Muscle and spent an extended period on box rest. We were able to help him using the modalities we were lucky to have, Arc Equine (under the purple stable bandage in the pictures), Magnetic Rugs and eventually we were able to use Red Light Phototherapy using the Optimus Lumina when he was more comfortable and allowed us to touch the area. All of these tools assist with reducing inflammation which is key to healing process.

My first attempt at a Timelapse of what a treatment for your horse can look like
Now I’m not great with technology but I’m trying and will do some more of these to improve things such as camera angle so you can see what I’m doing properly 😂

This was Star my clients new 4 year old, I saw her for the first time 2 weeks ago and this was our second session
Previous to my hands on assessment there was a trott up, dynamic assesment if Star we just didn’t film that bit

If you have any questions about my treatments or how your horse could benefit from Sports Massage Therapy please drop me a message

And then it rained for 40 days and 40 nights 🌧️☂️☔️💦💧
At least that's what it feels like right now!

At this time of year our horses don't tend to move around as much
Whether this is because turnout is limited so they're in their stable more or the fields are bare so they just stand at the gate waiting to come in.
With this lack of movement their circulatory system can need a little help. Sports Massage Therapy can help improve their circulation by using stretching techniques, hands on massage and also using my Optimus Therapy Tech Lumina device.

I'll be in York on Saturday 21st and have appointments available after 1pm, if you'd like more information or to book an appointment please contact me through Facebook Messenger 📱

Well done everyone we made it through January!🥳
Now that we're finally beginning to get a bit more daylight 🌥️its time to start thinking about the coming competition season.🏆
If you and your horse have been having a bit of time off or just been working a little bit less this winter why not think about having your horse looked over before starting your Spring Competition preparation.
Sports Massage Therapy is a great way to give your horse a good check over to identify any areas of stiffness and tension and deal with them there and then.

I now have the availability to take on new clients for 2026 with appointments available in the evenings and weekends too 👍

The best way to contact me is to just drop me a message through Messenger so I can check my diary and come back to you 🙂
