Touch Tuina Treatment Centre, York

Touch Tuina Treatment Centre, York Tuina employs the use of the hands to press on key points on the surface of the body to stimulate the body’s own natural healing process.

When these points are stimulated, they release tension and increase the bodies circulation of blood and nutrients to bring about the body’s own healing process. Tuina and acupuncture use the same meridians and points and they are both based in traditional Chinese medicine for its diagnosis: seeing, touching, palpating and questioning. The tongue and pulse are also used to diagnose many of the inte

rnal conditions that may present at clinic. Tuina is a hands on therapy and the practitioner can stimulate many points during a single treatment, dredge many channels/meridians compared to acupuncture as 400 needles may be too excessive for the patient to handle. Tuina also has the ability to work on the local muscle near the trauma. Tuina meaning push and pluck can break down adhesions and scar tissue at the local level to increase the flow of blood and oxygen (chi) to carry away damaged tissue. One of the many advantages of Tuina is that it can be taught to the patient as a remedial therapy to perform daily as a routine to maintain the healing process, encourage blood and oxygen to flow through any damaged area of the body. My Clinical experience of over 14 years has shown that Tuina can be effective in helping relieve, headache, migraine, rheumatoid arthritis, muscle pain, strain, cramps, menstrual pain, small joint dislocations, martial art traumatic injuries, dance injuries, vertigo, poor muscle growth when training, problems with the endocrine system, insomnia, stress at work and home, constipation, diarrhoea, bell’s palsy, trigger finger, swollen knee, wry neck, cervical spondylosis, frozen shoulder, RSI to the joints, muscle ruptures full or partial, stroke, cold hands and feet, sciatic pain, back pain, poor energy, muddy thinking (thoughts not clear) removal of scar tissue, These are some of the more successful cases that I have treated with Tuina massage therapy.

The job of a good practitioner, is to find the imbalance of the patient, the skill of the practitioner if to repair or educate the patients.

The imbalances can be found in;
Posture
Skeletal system
Muscular system
Endocrine system
Cardio system
Microbiomes
Circulatory systems
Immune system
Circadian rhythm
Diet

With Tuina and TCM, we use 4 main methods;
Touch or palpating
Looking
Questioning
Listening
If your skill is lacking in Touch or looking, then asking and listening is very important!

With TCM the understanding of;

5 Elements (how the body work within nature )

Yin/yang (how the body works within the universe)

8 principles ( how to understand where the in balance is with the Zang/Fu organs)

6 levels ( where the imbalance is within the channels )

4 levels ( with the imbalance is within the blood and Qi)

Qi ( where the energetic imbalance is )

There are a lot more to mention but these are the basics

Once noted or found the practitioner may use;

Acupuncture
Herbs
Tuina ( Touch is in constant use throughout the treatment)
Exercise
Meditation
Diet.

An example of an imbalance could be pain.

I was in a cab today and the drive had back pain. He has had an MRI and was seeing a physio and taking pills, but he still has the pain.
Did they find the imbalance or were they masking the symptoms.
The drivers posture in a seated position for many hours.

Diagnosis.
Lack of movement of his muscles leads to poor circulation or blood and endocrine systems (shortening muscles and tendons)
A weakness due to a lack of exercise so, no core strength to hold the bad posture.

The type of job generally goes hand in hand with a poor diet/ nutrition which leads to a poor immune system and muscle tone.

Poor sleeping habits lead to weakness of all the systems listed above.

The discussion with the taxi driver lead me to write this as not many patients really know what is behind a tuina practitioner or teacher of tuina understanding of the human body!
