My name is Stacey. I’m 40 years old, and for years I believed my extremely painful periods were just “normal.” But the pain kept getting worse.

Every month I experienced severe stomach cramps that radiated down my legs and heavy bleeding. Even going to the toilet was unbearable, the pain was so intense that tears would run down my face. I couldn’t stand up straight and spent hours curled up with hot water bottles just to cope.

In 2015, I married my husband and we were excited to start a family. After two and a half years of trying, we were referred for IVF. During a scan, doctors found a blood-filled cyst on my o***y and my treatment had to be paused.

Eight months later I had surgery. What doctors found was shocking - stage 4 endometriosis that had spread across my reproductive organs, bowel, appendix and abdominal wall.

After surgery, I was finally able to continue IVF. Our first cycle failed, but in 2019 we tried again. After years of hoping, I finally saw a positive pregnancy test.

In November 2019, we welcomed our beautiful daughter, Eve.

Sadly, my symptoms returned a few years later. The pain became so severe I had to stay close to a toilet because I couldn’t control my bladder or bowels when it struck. At times, the pain felt worse than childbirth.

In November 2024, I had a second surgery where my bowel had to be separated from my uterus. I was also diagnosed with adenomyosis.

Right now, I’m doing well with a Mirena coil, but if it stops working my only option may be a hysterectomy.

I always dreamed of having two children. Because of endometriosis, I’ve only been able to have one.

But I am incredibly grateful for my daughter. Without surgery and IVF, she wouldn’t be here.

Endometriosis took a lot from me, but it will never take away how thankful I am to be Eve’s mum. 💛

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women in Wales. Endometriosis is when tissue, similar to tissue found inside the womb, is found elsewhere in the body. For some, this can cause severe symptoms, including painful periods and pelvic pain, and it could mean that people have difficulties getting pregnant.

Endometriosis can have a huge impact on a person’s quality of life, their work, and their relationships.

❗️Important Notice to Patients ❗️

🕣 Change to Surgery Opening Time

From Tuesday 7th April, the surgery doors will open from 8:30am

To ensure fairness for all patients trying to access appointments during our busiest time, our reception team will prioritise incoming telephone calls between 8:00am and 8:30am. We are also improving our call-handling capacity during this period.

This approach follows the guidance set by the Welsh Government and is designed to ensure equitable access for all patients while making the best use of practice resources.

This decision has also been driven by feedback received through our annual Patient Satisfaction Survey.

We understand that not everyone will welcome this change; however, these steps are necessary to ensure fairness and equality of access for all patients.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Does anyone know what your future wishes are?

At different points in our lives, we may want to consider what is important to us should there be changes in our health and wellbeing. Future Care Planning (FCP) is about thinking and planning ahead and can help people at any age or stage of life. FCP may involve conversations between individuals, those closest to them and healthcare professionals, giving people the opportunity to plan for future changes in their health and care. Although people’s experiences and views are personal to them, it is really important that what matters to each of us as individuals is known and respected.

People can start planning at any time but are often not sure how to go about it. Thinking ahead and making plans for our health and care when we are well means there will be less to think about if we become ill.

Therefore, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board want to raise public awareness of FCP and empower people to both think about what is important to them and their families, and to let people know what matters to them through a personalised FCP.

It's Cervical Cancer Prevention Week. The symptoms of cervical cancer aren’t always obvious, the most common symptoms are:

- Vaginal bleeding that's unusual for you - after menopause, between regular periods or after s*x
- Unexplained pain in your lower back or between your hip bones (pelvis)
- Pain or discomfort during s*x
- Changes to vaginal discharge like a change to smell

If you have any of these symptoms, it is important that you see your GP, even if you have recently had a clear cervical screening test. It’s usually something minor, but early checks give the best chance for successful treatment.

Knowing what to look out for is really important.
