2025 Recap Thank You!!

Today I want to say thank you for the continued support for all who utilizes Dr. Carter Vet both locally and at our international branches.

I wanted to talk a bit about corporate social responsibility because it is one of the core values of our practice for the last 11 years.
From year one we understood that we had to give back to the community because they were the ones who helped us grow.

From the beginning we subsidized livestock visits as well as farm animal medicine. This last year, we treated hundreds of livestock with anti-parasitics, as well as vaccinated them against rabies at no cost to the farmers. This was only possible because of the kind contribution from the vector control department of the ministry of health.
We look forward to maintaining these efforts into the new year as we anticipate the continued support for the initiative.

We were able to vaccinate hundreds of dogs and cats against rabies at no cost other than the owners, as well as do lots of pro bono spays and neutering of dogs and cats.

We look forward to starting our 12th year operating in Grenada.

As we approach the festive season, I want to say thank you to all of our supporters and well wishes, and I hope that you have a safe and enjoyable festive season.

To the livestock farmers, remember to be careful when selling animals for slaughter or slaughtering them yourself. Be conscious of the withdrawal period for the drugs administered.
Although we usually cut off livestock medication that end of October, we did not make our annual post this year, so hopefully people adhered to the safety recommendations.

Why Mobile Veterinary?

When I got back to Grenada 11 years ago I wanted to bring personalized Veterinary medicine to everyone everywhere.

We had some hiccups along the way, but things turned out pretty well.

Here a short look of some of the Dr Carter Vet story.

With the need for competent veterinary care higher than ever before, I hope other young Grenadian Veterinary grads chose to build their careers at home.

Where did the time go!

We would like to send out a big thank you to our summer vet-student Suzanna as she heads back to classes.

Suzy did a 3 month summer internship with us at DrCarterVet where she saw and assisted in a wide range of cases. She played a pivotal role in our massive community outreach efforts where we vaccinated hundreds of livestock, dogs, and cats against the rabies virus.

She also helped us with emergency and elective surgeries, routine vaccinations, internal and external parasite control, as well as advanced diagnostic blood testing and ultrasound.

During this time we saw marked improvement in her knowledge of cattle, sheep and goat breeds on the island, and the planning and implementation of effective livestock management strategies.

Suzy was professional and always willing to help. She made herself available and wasn’t afraid to hike down the side of a cliff to wrangle a bull for a rabies vaccination, or to spend the day on a boat to deploy a satellite tag on a sea turtle.

Her internship literally spanned from the mountains to the sea, and no parish was left unattended. Suzy will be an asset to veterinary medicine, and our doors remain open if she gets time to join us again in the future.

We also thank all the clients and members of the community who welcomed her during our visits. It is individuals like you who are keeping the DrCarterVet model going.

In the last 10 years opperating in Grenada, Dr Carter Vet has given both required and optional hands-on veterinary experience to Pre-Veterinary students, Pre-Clinical Veterinary students, Final Year Veterinary students, and New Grad Veterinarians.
Although the bulk of these students came from the University in Grenada, we also had students and vets from the US, UK, Germany, Austria, and even one who studied in Australia!
We are proud to have had the means and resources to share this opportunity with our Grenadian born students; 10 of whom are now veterinarians themselves.

The Dr Carter Vet team is forever grateful to have been part of their journey.

As we celebrate the completion of 10 years operating in Grenada. Dr Carter Vet will be doing a series of community outreach activities in January 2025.

These will be targeted events focused on the western and northern block of the island, but will also facilitate the east and south.

We will be doing a series of spay and neuter clinics, vaccination drives, wellness checks and administration of antiparasitics, as well as community engagement on common diseases such as rabies, heartworms, parvo, and more.

We are still finalizing specific days and locations, so stay tuned to this page for more details in the coming weeks.

It’s been a few years since I worked with Milo out there in Somaliland but I still remember him as a mischievous adolescent leopard!

He was quite the character!

RIP Milo boy, your fight is over. ❤️

Conservation work has its highs and lows. Last week was a very low week for staff at the Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC) in Somaliland, with the loss of Milo, our beloved resident leopard. Sadly, Milo succumbed to a chronic illness he had been battling for some time. Milo came into our care as a young cub, mistaken for a cheetah, and taken from the wild to be sold on the illegal wildlife trade.

Milo has touched many hearts and is very missed. If you were fortunate to have your heart touched by Milo, we invite you to share a photo of him in the comments below.

Throughout St Patrick the Dr. Carter Vet Team has been mobilized to support both animals and their owners with a commitment to community outreach and animal welfare, the veterinary team has been providing essential care and resources to ensure the safety and health of animals impacted by the hurricane Beryl.

In the days following the hurricane, Dr. Carter and his team offered free veterinary services, including wellness checks, vaccinations, and treatments for injuries sustained during the hurricane. The team also distributed pet food to owners navigating the aftermath of the storm.

Dr. Carter Vet Team most recently completed further initiatives in St Patrick conducting more checkups, spay/neuter surgeries at no cost, and providing vaccination services and preventative medications for internal and external parasites to ensure pets are protected against common diseases.
