Many parents expect antibiotics every time their child has a fever, however most upper respiratory tract infections are caused by viruses.
The best way to treat these illnesses is with supportive care - managing the fever, lots of fluids, fruits, veggies and rest.
Antibiotics can negatively affect the healthy bacterial balance in the body and can cause side effects such as diarrhoea, yeast infections and allergic reactions.
Best to monitor your child's temperature and hydration status, and if there is no improvement over 24 hours or they get worse consult your health care provider.
Antibiotics do not treat viral infections, like colds and flu 🤧. ALWAYS seek the advice of a qualified health care professional before taking antibiotics.
