One in ten women experience pain and discomfort during s*x. This can be caused by their pelvic floor muscles being too tight or that they struggle to relax the pelvic floor muscles.

Treatment can include exercises which teach women how to relax and stretch their pelvic floor muscles with the aim of improving the coordination of their pelvic floor reducing pain and restoring function.

Pelvic floor muscles have a role in increasing s*xual pleasure during in*******se and therefore by strengthening a weak pelvic floor you can improve the sensation and pleasure during s*x.
Tips on Pelvic floor exercises.

1) A variety of different types of contractions is advised. Like all muscles in the body the pelvic floor muscles can perform in different ways. Practise short, powerful squeezes (10-15 in a row) but also less intense but longer contractions too – for example trying to sustain a pelvic floor muscle hold for 5-10 seconds, ideally while still breathing.
2) Use the whole pelvic floor – most people focus on contracting the muscles around the opening of the bladder tube (the urethra). But you should also practise tightening around the a**l sphincter, as if stopping wind escaping. Contracting the back part and front part of the pelvic floor together creates more uplift and closure of the vaginal walls in women, and can help sustain an er****on in men.
3) Make sure you relax too, After contracting the pelvic floor it is important that you fully relax and release the contraction in-between contractions. This will optimise your pelvic floor function. When relaxing the muscles imagine the pelvic floor is melting into the surface you are sitting on.
4) If you suffer from painful in*******se learning to relax your pelvic floor and coordinate the muscles will be the focus of treatment.

Have a happy Valentines Day everyone.
